First of all my apologies to hijack yet another topic that involves my E-100 build, but the issue I bumped into seriously threw me off and I'd like as many opions as possible.
In my build log you can see I have the Krupp turret for the E-100, a beautiful piece in the correct dimensions. I've also described how I moved the turret ring forward so the turret would align with the drawings I have in Panzer Tracts. So that's that...
Now... last night I wanted to mark where I was going to place the tools and clamps and suddenly came to a troubling finding. The turret is wide and virtually scrapes the hull and you simply can't move it over the ventilator dome between the hatches, let alone have tools in the front section like the KT or JT.
Here's the problem:
Here is how it would look if the turret has to move over the ventilator dome:
Resulting in this kind of gap, seen here from the side:
I'm really puzzled how to move forward now. I stuck close to the Panzer Tracts drawing and so did Cammets who made the turret. The PT drawing shows a configuration that is simply 'no go' on the pratical side.
Any advice, insight, expertise is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
John

When these situations happened in reality, they would grind out the lower corner so the turret could clear the hull obstructions. I'd leave the turret flush with just cut outs.
Of course, you can make a diorama where the maintenance crews, in their radioactivity protective suits, can be seen cutting out the corners with torches. In my "what if" 1946 Germany scenario, the USA would have nuked about fifteen German cities! LOL

Is the overall length of the hull and turret correct as per Panzer tracts?

John,
One solution would be to move the ventilator dome as per the JT. You may also consider moving the hatch handles further forward and at 90 degrees from original postion to see if the turret will clear. Another possiblity would be to incorporate how the hatches would open, simular to the late Panther G (slide across the deck) not swing up and open. This would give the crew a way out should the turret become unmovable over either of the hatches? This may be the reason that this assembly is missing on the prototype? The Germans may have been working out a solution to this delema considering the new turret installation?
The notches that Roy mentions above is a workable one but you would have to remove a lot of material to get things to clear the way they are now positioned. I'm sure someone here will come up with a better solution to what I mentioned. Just be a little patient and the right things will fall into place. Hang in there your doing a magnificant job.

Hay John
If you look at the K T, P3 and P4. The front of the turret is either cut, notched or angled to clear something. Just notch it, and be done with it. That simple.

One thing to think about. Just rember that most of the hulls wear built in one factory, and the turrets wear built in another, and sometimes by another company. They had to be fitted together.

I've solved the problem a while ago by placing the ventilator dome on the side like with the Jagdtiger, placing the handles on the hatches elsewhere and by lifting the turret just a little with 0.25mm plasticcard. I really should post an update on my build, but I'm in the finishing stages and thought to finish the beast completly before showing any more pictures...
Cheers,
John
