Very nice, the paint looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product. Will you be using the tracks that came with the kit?

Hey Mike
Can you tell me somethings about your build,
I will be building the same Sherman based on the below pic,
Was it an easy straight forward build, how much changing did you have to do to make it accurate. Any thing I will need to make it correct.
Thanks for any advise

mike great job!, i like the two tone camo as opposed to the regular olive drab. the tasca sherman is a great kit almost perfect IMO. just one thing
according to pictures and references, derby was a late m4a1 with
-the later m34a1 gun mount.
other than that, its excellent, i hope you send this in for a feature, seriously, i hope my shermans turn out half as great.

Beautiful work, really outstanding.
One small detail you might want to check is whether Derby had a small shelf or bustle rack welded onto the turret rear; I recall an older painting of it showing that detail but I know memory (especially mine) is an imperfect thing

Hi Mike,
Great work. Some superb airbrushing and excellent weathering. The pictures are great quality too. Thanks for taking the time to share. I second Pat's suggestion for a feature. Did you use dry transfers for the markings?
Cheers from a fellow Halo fan!
Jim.

Thank you very much for jour kind words, I really appreciate that.
E.Bowman : Yes, I will be using the tracks that came with the kit.
Pat : I'll definately submit this as a foto feature
Alvaro : Well, for me it is always the month of the sherman ( I'am a shermanholic), but if you look on different forums shermans are getting more popular every day. Maybe becouse shermans are so much fun to build?
Mike : Thank you very much for your picture of derby, this is the first picture I have seen of the real derby (do you have more?). The only kind of reference I have is a stupid drawing that shows the wrong mantlet. I discovered that I had assembled the wrong mantlet after I painted the whole thing
The build was pretty straightforward becouse tasca has done a very good job developing their shermans (tasa 4 life! ). The only thing i've made are the two racks on both sides of the turret.
However, there are a few small things that could use some attention: such as adding wealds to the add on armour and skirts, making a cast surface on the hull and turret with mr. surfacer and add a casting symbol on the front of the upper hull. I've also used a PE set from aber and a brass barrels
Calvin : I already knew about the mantlet. This was by the lack of (good) reference
Danny : I know about the rack. I didn't want to make the rack becouse I found it "ugly", but now I kinda reget that I never made one Ah, well not every tank has to be a 100% accurate.
Alan : thank you!
Fellow halo fan : these markings came with the kit
Again thanks for your nice replies

Hey Mike,
No unfortunately............. that was the only photo I could find of Derby, I looked everywhere. I found it in a book M4 Sherman at war by Steven J Zaloga, It's a good chance that this might be the only picture of the Derby since the 2nd Armor Div. lost over 70 percent of it's tank from July to August of 1944. Sorry.........hope this one helps a little.
Thanks for the information by the way. You do have a great build there.
Mike

Hey Mike a great job have done here mate. Lovely attention to detail, and good additions to the tank have been made. As mentioned the rear rack would be in place, and a M34a1 gunshield would be used. There is another photo of 'Derby', this one a front on shot from a little distance passing a disabled Panzer thingy. (A Panzer IV maybe?) I'll try and source it for you.
Cheers

Nice and clean and good work on painting that gear.
Is that stuff Legend Productions gear?
Can't wait to see the tracks on it.

Hey Mike,
I think this is the photo Bradley was referring to below.
If you look to the left of the Sherman at the left fender you can see the markings the Derby has. I believe it the 30 in the circle, also you can just make out the D on the right side of the turret.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Jeff: Thanks, the resin is indeed from legend.
Mike: I can't thank you enough for the pictures!
Here is al little update:
I'am not completely satisfied with the dust on the upper hull, so I'll be changing that

Hey Mike the M4a1 is looking great!
I especially like the touch of having the loader visible through the pistol port and the turret traversed.
Thanks Mike (silentsteel) for the photo; it is the one I'm thinking of.
