Hi guys,
a simple question. Is anybody knowing wich are the major faults and correction to make to the kit in order to achieve a good reproduction of the real thing?
Thanks in advance

Short version: Everything.. set the kit aside and wait for a Tamiya/DML/Trumpeter issue.
Long Version:
Not exactly Skif's finest hour, better than their T55, but not much.
It is the only game in town for now.
pretty much everything is in need of repair/rebuild/aftermarket.
Miniarm (or Accurate Armor) Turret and roadwheels. replacement gun tube (Armorscale?)
The is a set of Skif individual link tracks that is incredibly fiddly, fragile and contains barely enough links... pass on this and get the Miniarm clickable tracks.
Eduard does an etch set.
Sorry there is not better news

Hi
Yes the kit needs some work if you want to do a real accurate model you need for the A version de turret from Miniarm that already has a gun barrel, tracks from the same company and SP designs will release on this year a correct upper hull, plus the eduard PE but if you only wants to correct the mayor faults buy the turret and tracks only, theres a lot of camo versions for this model so have fun....

SP Designs does a T-64U conversion currently.
The T-64B one-piece upper hull will be available shortly.
There are some other T-64 conversions to be released sometime in the future...(T-64A one piece upper hull, maybe some other detail pieces)
I would recomend Master Club T-64 tracks over the Miniarm tracks. I just put the Mast Club tracks together for my T-64U build and they are wonderfull. I have not yet put my Miniarm tracks together, but they have some flash to clean up that the Master Club tracks did not.
Miniarm does NOT make T-64 roadwheels...they only make 1 set fo tracks and 3 turrets (T-64A, T-64B non-appique, and T-64B applique.)
Accurate Armour does a T-64B update set with turret and details, but no roadwheels.
The SKIF kit, plus the proper Eduard PE, plus a correct turret if modelling the T-64B series, woudl make for a nice, if expensive, model.
The SKIF T-64A, as per Zaloga's review of the kit, seems to be a ok representation and may not require turret replacement. I have not done the work to see how correct the T-64A turret actually is.

I could have sworn they did, my bad.

It is a shame too becasue it is quite a good looking tank, better looking to my eye than the T72 for sure.
We can hope our friend at Trumpeter can let us know that this will no longer be a problem..

Moreno,
Sorry to be part of the bad news brigade.
Look at it this way, at least you didn't try to start in with their T55 kit...
And as for mandatory, it is your build.
Unless it is for a client or museum nothing is 'mandatory'.
It all depends on your end goal.
yeah, I know, I keep telling myself that, getting the kit out, and putting it away again..
Good luck,
Mike

It was like the Soviets' version of the M60A2; not a very good tank and because of that, kept in limited use within their own country before retired. Since it did not have widespread use, we're lucky to get one company to make a kit of it. Now if the Germans had used it, Dragon would be all over it.

I agree with you, I also prefer to build a kit with a little imperfection instead to buy a lot of aftermarket items and never build it. My sentence was only a joke.
Anyway if the errors are so visible and macroscopic than I feel the duty to try to correct it in some way even if this will take some money out of my pocket.
Thanks again and sorry for my english.

Yes I will buy it from a friend of mine for 20 Euro's including the Skif tracks.
It is a challange, anyway I like that subject.

Hi
The T-64 was a very good tank for his time it wasnt export because it was a revolutionary design, automatic autoloader, new suspension, 125mm cannon, combination K armor, in fact its really comparable with the chieftain and years away from the M-60 but it was too espensiveand on the early series really problematic but on late versions it was a good tank, it was never exported because it was a secret project not know on the west until early 80's, and the fact that Ukrania is modernized them is a proof on his value. So russian fans must have one at least

This thread got me to drag my T64B out of the stash and take it to the local model meeting tonight. I glued about 10 more parts on, looked at the vague locations for about 10 more, and put it back in the box for another year or two.
Was this enough work to induce Trumpeter to do one...?
Ask me in 2 years.
Mike
