Hi All.
I wasn't sure I wanted to do a build blog on this one, but I got inspired by Chris and Rick so here it goes. This is the Hobby Fan Lynx, its an all resin kit with AFV Club road wheels and Hong Kong Creation Workshop track. Although the kit detail is excellent, it dose have a few problems. The shape of the front fenders, the lack of the added armor plate at the front lower hull, the rear engine access door in raised detail. These are just a few of the more obvious problems. But its the only Lynx on the market and just happens to be the Canadian version.

Thank you Rick & Chris.Your blogs inspired me and I welcome the comments.
Ok so the front fenders are coming along, the original shape was right out. I also added the weld seam that attaches the fender to the hull. The rear engine access door was sanded flush with the back plate, and the panel line was re-scribed.
Cheers.
Todd.

Good start Todd I guess you know the Lynx well. If there is something you need to confirm try the Modern Canadian Vehicle Discussion Group website. Any question will be promptly answered with exacting detail from the forum users.

Well I do know a bit about the Lynx, I'm an old Recce dog from the Lynx days.It was my second track qualification when I was just a wee zipper head at the armored school.
In 1998 I helped restored a Lynx for the Strathconas when I was with the regiment in Edmonton. Here is a Picture for you Chris. Thanks for the comments and the help.
Cheers.

That's the one 41F good old Dervish, the fastest Lynx I ever drove. Fun restoration too. Wish I had one for my self, I need something with track to keep the Jeeps company in the garage.

Todd, your a braver man than me having a go at that kit, I look forward to seeing your progress.
If you haven't already got it, can I suggest you have a look at the Osprey Book 'Modelling the M113 series' by Graeme Davidson. It is an excellent book, and it has an article on building the Hobby Fan Lynx which you may find very helpful.
I have few pics of the Lynx at Bovington which I could post if they'd be any use to you, although I guess you've got plenty of pics of your own!

Hi Ken. Any pics and or help is very much appreciated. Yes I have the Osprey Book on the M113 and it was Graeme's article on the Lynx that got me interested in taking a kick at the cat.(pun intended).
Thanks Ken.

Todd, rather than upload them all here, I think the best bet is to have a look at my photobucket album: KJA78 Armour
There are about a dozen pics of the Lynx towards the end of the album.

The Lynx 41F was re-built back in 96 from monument to runner , I remember grinding the welds off the back to see if there was engine in the back, .........nope all cleaned out. If you need photos, I have a walkaround of that beast at photobucket.com search for albums by ldshrecceboy, on the left colume Lynx walkaround..............

Thanks Anthony. Your walkaround pics will help allot especially the GPMG dogleg mount. The one in the kit is not accurate.
I remember when I first got to the SAC site In Jan of 1998, Dave Buckland told me that the Lynx had been a monument and that Recce Sqn had worked on most of the restoration. When the vehicles were moved to the SAC site Chadbourne (our Mechanic at the time) got his hands on it and for some unknown reason, pulled the engine and striped it down. Bucky was so mad that he asked for another mechanic, and we got Wayne Graham. My first job was to helped Wayne put the engine back together and into the Lynx. Then we gave it a new coat of paint and reapplied the markings.
Cheers.

Ok just got off work today so not much progress. Got the square cut out of the Exhaust Grille door where the armored cover for the coolant filler cap is suppose to be. Put the armored cover on and made a new frame for the mesh cover that goes over the exhaust extension. I didn't like the kits molded on rendition.

Going all out with the details Todd. Good to see, it will pay off in the end to change/add the small details.

Hi Chris.
This one is a bit of a challenge, no PE sets or upgrade kits on the market that I know of, wish there was. Makes for a slower build, but adding your own detail is quite entertaining.
Cheers.

Todd, really nice job especially the rear acces port which is not easy to correct.
Now the main isuue remain the Turret, check pictures also on "Primeportal" (there are many very useful high definition picturers on the subject) and you will see that all the rotation system is quite over simplified on the model. Now its up to you if want to correct it and achieve a super model or overtake it and remain with a normal model (just joking obviously)
I hope to see it painted soon.
Compliments

This also increases the chance that AFV Club or Academy or Trumpeter comes out with one! I'd love to see a Dutch version though.
