Hi everyone,

With my T-55 well underway I'm already looking into the horizon at my next project. I'll be building a T-90A m2004 from various miniarm upgrade sets and a Tamiya T-72 M1 as the base kit.

I noticed on some reviews of the miniarm kits though that a "correct" exhaust is mentioned as a possible idea for another future miniarm set. Does anyone have any info or reference images of what the correct exhaust should be for a recent T-90A? It would be interesting to know how much it varies from the T-72 exhaust in the base Tamiya kit, and how much work would be needed to correct this.

I've ordered all of the relevant T-90 upgrades from miniarm, but this seems to be a pretty major factor that would need to be addressed to make the build accurate.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Here is the new exhaust:

Here is one with the baffler (I think it is a baffler):

More T-90 pics here

Miniarm sets doesn't include that kind of exhaust, so if you want a more accurate late T-90 you'll have to scratchbuild it, but it is no that simple... You'll have to remove the entire fuel tank above the exhaust and relocate it a few mm to the left (when looking the tank from the top, main gun pointing upwards), because a modification is required on the hull:

This is a T-72 hull, the same goes for an early T-90:

The fuel tank is aligned with the fender boxes (blue line), but this is a late T-90 hull:

The fuel tank is not aligned but a little to the left, the responsible is that prominence on the hull, I think it is due to the different exhaust system of the V92 engine. Note that the stamped pattern on the fuel tank is different in a T-90, so you must modify the T-72 fuel tank. Here is another where you can see that prominence without the engine hatch:

.

Hope this helps. Best regards.

José.

Thanks Jose!

Thats great and very indepth, just what I was looking for.

Scratch building or upgrading the exhaust wouldn't be too hard, as you've said though it will also need some work to the upper chassis and fuel tanks. These reference images give a pretty clear view of what needs to be done though, I think with a bit of work and some plasticard the changes could be made to the T-72 chassis without too much problem.

Definitely something to think about. Building a 2004 T-90A that miniarm set depicts would be impossible without correcting this, and I'm surprised miniarm haven't addressed this with their conversion set. Seems odd to over look such a big difference.
