Hi everyone, it's time for the Herrick campaign build so here goes:
The kit is Tamiya's superb Chally 2. It comes with superb detail allover

I got some PE to update the kit a little, mainly for the hooks and handles, some mesh for the engine intakes and what not

The thing i hate is sanding so, even though Tamiya's barrel is superb, i got myself this - Lionmarc barrel

It suffers from tapering shape, and a fuzzy detailed bore colimator, but has nice detail like muzzle rifling. Anyway here are some pics to help ilustrate my point

It comes in six parts - 5 resin and one turned aluminum

some details

A nice sag, looks natural as in Tamiyas...

Anyway, the Tamiya Chally is a great kit with one downfall - no anti slip coating. With some masking tape and some Mr.masking neo sol and free time you get this

That's all i got done today, and I'd love to hear some comments.
Cheers

Thanks for the comments! It's made with Mr.surfacer 500, undiluted sprayed at 3 bar pressure from my AB. It gives a nice texture but iu clogs the brush fast, so several passes are needed. It's instantly dry and it's not too coarse

Here's some new progress: I've been bending a bit these days, and I'm still not done. Eduard's PE has some nice detail, and it's pretty easy to bend and glue this time. I've also added the rectangular antenna thingie on top of the turret, and closed the holes from beneath that would otherwise be seen through. I also added the vents on the back of the chassis some handles that are easily bended by breathing on them, some boxes and other stuff... here are the pics!

The only issue is with the smoke dischargers andthat would be my heavyhanded mistake. I chopped off more than needed so I'll try to fix it later

I like it, very good job indeed.
Did one when the kit was first released, and don‘t forget the anti-skid the front section of the turret side, too many do.
Interesting that U haven‘t assembled the complete turret yet, any special reason for that if i may ask?

Cheers

No special reason, I'm trying to check if I'm doing this right, and going slow and one piece at the time works for me. I applied the side turret anti-slip but I will have to do it over once again due to some puttying of the sides if it will be needed. I still have to figure out how to get the periscope colour and depth properly before I can close up the turret
cheers

Periscopes shouldn‘t be a problem if both half's connected, just lay the turret on it‘s roof and insert the periscope with a twizzer.
I alway put a drop of PVA glue around the inside and then let it dry for a while, it worked on all my turret‘s till now although it quite a fiddle.
Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Here's she as she stands now: I've assembled the major parts on the chassis and now i have to figure out the base colours for british AFV dduring op telic... There are still some things missing like the wiring for the headlights, fuel barrels, driver cover and some random PE

I've noticed there is a slight gap in the frontal armour. Is it supposed to be like that or did i fudge up something?

Here's a better? pic

Any ideas?

A milestone for me: turret closed and the periscopes turned out how i wanted them. I've added some wiring for the lights, and test fitted everything so far - so good!

Lights off:

Lights on:

Checked some of my ref. (pics+video) and in one film sequence of a Chally 2 idling in Bergen/Germany with the top plate still screwed/attached there is a gap visible.
When removing the lights for reattachment on the add-on armour, their original attachment points are still in place along with other "things" avoiding a even rest on the hull armour. Think U are good to go, looks correct.

Also try http://www.rommelkiste.de/
click to Fahrzeuge, many Brits there and one pic of a still tan painted Chally 2 clearly shows the gap.

Keep up the good work

This makes me jealous because I am building my chally in a week with the exact same things that you are using. Check out my build log because it has alot of good Op Telic photos. Also, check this photo of the coaxial MG flash hider. I plan on cutting mine with dental floss or thread.

Other than that you tank looks great. Im green with envy so keep up the good work. Also here is the link to my blog. I'm subscribing to yours as well.

Thanks, I see what you mean and it would be good to do that before gluing the entire assembly. I don't think there is space to maneuver with some type of thread now. I think a black wash into the recesses will have to do. On the other hand, I broke the side CIP's while trying to bend them into shape, so now I wait for a replacement set as well.
Your blog's great, post more pics!!

Here's some more pics. I added the side CIP panels, as I still haven't received my replacement Eduard set. They are temporary on. I also saw I didn't finish the anti slip - the refueling points got the same treatment. I need to fix the smoke grenade dischargers, because I've cut out more than necessary and now I'm fixing it with Tamiya's epoxy putty. And I've started a little friend to go with him...

MiG's burnt out car really sucked. The roof doesnot fit at all as well as all the other parts. It's not the bent shape, but the shrinkage that made the roof, bonnet, and the trunk cover unusable. It will take a crowbar to make it fit...but I'll get it there...
