Many thanks, Gary!
Can you think of anything I've missed? Looking for things that need to be done before I prime it, especially.
I plan on displaying it on a "security" mission, so no crew tent on the right front fender, I'll just have the tie-down straps loose on the rack......

Primer! I use Krylon general purpose gray primer, goes on just like Tamiya's, nice and tight.
And then a heavy wash of acrylic dark green. Once the green sets up nicely, it'll shoot it with MM SAC tan.
Getting closer.....

Hi Russell.
The GAL is coming along fabulously. It has a really "busy" appearance just like any IDF piece of armour should be!
Just wondering if you are planning to add one or two IDF tankers in the turret hatches? If so, the " BLAST " IDF tankers I used on mine are excellent if you were thinking of getting some?
I wouldn't change anything about yours and the dark green underspray will correctly 'tinge' the SAC tan you are going to overspray.
Keep the pics coming mate!
Cheers!
Gary

Thanks, Gary, much appreciated.
I plan on having the hatches populated, don't know who yet. I like the Blast figs a lot, but I have a couple sets of the Academy guys, admittedly not the best figs but what I may end up with. Both hatches are still workable, so no rush on a decision.
I have time on Friday, should get a color coat on then. I'm liking this one myself, a good companion to this:
The 6-C I did last year.
Before I forget: The spent-shell basket for the mantlet .50 was giving me fits. I tried making it from lead foil, no joy. I was out of Aves, so some serious head-scratching and I thought: I'll carve it out of a plastic box. Sounded good at the time, so I went digging through the spares for a suitable shape, and found Tamiya's Modern US Equipment set (the one with the dog, spare M1 and M60 wheels, track blocks, etc. that has some ruck sacks. Bingo! I cut the top of one off, boxed in the hollow back, and used a little Squadron green to blend it in. The length was exactly what I needed, and I was able to mount it so that it actually looked like the inside was slightly wrapped around the MG mount. Peachy. Not a great pic, but it shows the bag......

Sorry about the deleted photo in a prior post, I was cleaning up my photobucket.....and my "edit" icon isn't coming up. Oh well.
So I had a little time last night, got the color on and a coat of clear gloss. It's setting up now, will be dry tonight. Question is, do I do a gray "filter" wash, or go ahead with a pin wash. Color is a little more tan than I want, but very close to the color pics I have. Hmmm.......thought required.
Without the flash:
And the "lost" pic, what is under the color:

Some detail painting, some pin washes in areas that need black, like around the swing arms and final drives, and another shot of clear gloss. Decals to follow, then the washes and filters that will give it the slightly used but dusty look I want. It's a little rough looking at the moment, but will be blended and unified later in the process.
I've also done some minimal chipping. I don't know if the US-applied green is stripped as part of the rebuilding program the Israelis do or not, but I don't have any pics that show much wear on the paint at all. I have concentrated what little scrapes and scratches I've applied at very high-use areas, like engine access covers, tool box corners and handles and the like. Chips are done with dark green and burnt umber, to show bare metal and edges of the chip/scratch.
Tracks are washed in a light tan acrylic, and all I'll do to them is add some shinier or lighter dry-brushing to the contact areas. I have no pics of these kind of tracks with any rust on them at all, probably due to the material they're cast from.
The bustle cover has been painted in MM acrylic Israeli khaki, and the tac signs left in the SAC tan, for definition.
Thanks for checking in!

Thanks, hope to be of assistance.
I've been traveling, having router issues, and generally away from the bench lately. I have actually started applying markings, and have some pics, but internet time is very iffy right now, hope to get something up later today.

Bad pic, but a little progress......
I'm hoping to get a little more time next week, hard to say at this point. I'm at the stage where it's easy to get in a rush and I don't really want to do that, but I'm also looking forward to the finished model. Hmmm....

Well, waddya know, a girls' night out last night. So, I got a final coat of clear gloss over the turret decals, and began assembly after doing another wash on the suspension. Starting to look like a Magach....
More detail painting, stowage and dust followed by clear flat should wrap it up. Still need to decide on figs, and a base.

Hi Russell,
This 6B GAL is fabulous and I think surpasses the detail provided in the "Legends" conversion set that I used on mine.
I love the "busy" look you have achieved and I also like the choice of colour which I think is pretty spot-on for the greenish tinge of sand on later period IDF vehicles.
One thing I would say mate(if posssible) is use a good quality tanker figure as the build deserves no less. I could not see the (close up) the figure you posed in the earlier build pics but the Academy figs are pretty basic (as most plastic injection ones are) and will, I feel, detract from all the efforts on the MBT itself. At the very least use a "Hornet" IDF Tanker head if using the Academy plastic figs.
This excellent model deserves nothing less than an equally good tanker figure to do the model justice.
An all round great effort and some real MODELLING SKILLS - not merely building from a conversion set as I did!
Cheers Russell.

Gary, I will take your advise to heart and not use a mediocre figure. In fact, the Acad fig in the 6C will come out as well.....

A little more painting and the pastels are on, now it's ready for touch-up and stowage, I think. No crew figs as yet, being patient there......
Still to do that I know of: gloss clear on the front lights, finish painting the tail lights, gloss clear on the driver's periscope lenses, and a few minor grease stains on the road wheel hubs. I also want to re-do the mantlet MG, looks too bright, IMO.
Comments always appreciated, specifically: what have I missed?
The sun wasn't quite right for the shots I got, but I still like the results better than the indoor shots I get.....
And, the base is not quite finished (yep, another Israeli tank on a road....) and may not be the final display for this one. I'd like to pose it hull-down, not sure yet.

A little more detail painting. Light wasn't as good today, pics a little dark.
A couple of detail thingies, and it's time to move on.

I think I'm done........
Figs are still up in the air, although I am prepping a couple of the Academy figs for now, just to give it some life. Stowage, personal weapons for the turret crew, and antennae are on. I really can't think of anything else to add, aside from finalizing the base design. I do have a large quantity of actual rock dust that matches exactly the pigment color I used on the tank itself that will be used to finish the base. My pics taken today also make the tank appear slightly orange, when it's actually a little on the pink side of tan.
Thanks for looking, as always.

Four months later....and with a lousy camera and coffee-hands, what it will look like on the base. The idea is to have the tank posed hull-down in a border area overwatch position in northern Israel. I've got a base coat only on the terrain, but this gives a general idea. Flash pics are steadier (coffee-hands in the morning) but the colors are way off, no surprise.
The shadows make it appear is if the tank is on top of the groundwork, bit it is actually sitting down in troughs cut for the tracks......some final, small vegetation and pebbles will tie this in.
Pretty shaky here.....
And with the flash:
Finishing means doing the final painting on the ground work and using the same final pigments on ground and tank. I also have a couple of figs to be posed with heads only out of the hatches.
Any comments/thoughts/jeers welcome.

Well, there's no "edit" icon on my post, I was going to put up some better pics so I'll just throw up a couple of quickies.
Once again, sorry about the lousy pics in the previous post.
Thoughts?
Edit:
And looking, I see the last two posts I made, one deleted, had/have "edit" icons, but prior posts do not......
