I was one in the same situation as you and asked that a long time ago: 213 views, only one reply (not so encouraging, almost frustrating), it can be seen here. As you can see my request was very clear and that answer was another thing... This time you were lucky, good for you. BTW... I got tired of waiting and the T-34 I was working on... Well, I got rid of it. Now I can afford aftermarket tracks, but I don't want to know anything about T-34s right now. Happy New Year.

I revived my affection toward the T-34 (who wouldn't?) It is true, I got rid of the Tamiya T-34/76 I was working on, but look what I've found very deep in my stash:
Nothing less than my very first kit ever purchased. It is partially painted (with a brush) with Humbrol Hu 30 from my first days as an armor modeller...Now too dark for my taste but I'll finish it with that color and maybe a winterwash. I'll replace all the grab handles with copper wire and add some weld seams here and there. There's a problem with the tracks... Trying to fit the stiff Zvezda tracks, theleft idler wheel's axle broke due to the tracks being too tight. There's something weird-looking as you can see in pic #8 (from the top). I'll remove the tracks, and give some weathering to the undersides. Oh yes, I think one of the smoke canisters got lost, couldn't find it in the box, let's see what can I do about it (maybe an empty rack)... Oh yes, fuel tanks need some treatment as well. Now the question: What kind of tracks are the appropiate for this version? It is the Zvezda T-35/85, no year and no factory were told to me. Best regards.

Hi José. No mystery, it is a T-34-85, Somovo hull and UTZ turret, late 1944 or 1945 production, so any later T-34 track link will work. The DML Magic Tracks or ModelKasten or MasterClub or Fruils: any late waffle track will work just fine.

Thanks for your reply. I think some AFV Club 500 mm width tracks (#35173) will be fine. Best regards.

More likely intended to be strictly a UTZ tank. The rear hinges would be wrong for Sormovo (though perhaps a bit over scale).

Mark, it's a Zvezda kit... we can flip a coin. They might be UTZ hinges, overscale and too far inboard. They're in the right spot for Sormovo, even if they're the wrong shape, so who knows?
Cheers

Easy!
Not enough lobes on the hinge! 3 (on the small hinges used by 183, 174, et. al.) and 5 for 112 (or if you want to get even more pedantic, six for the large type hinge used on some Factory 174 and post war non Soviet made tanks) .
Also, 112 positioned their hinges between the run of bolts but the other factories actually placed (so to speak) theirs on the centerline of where two of the bolts would have been.
Ergo we must have either a UTZ or perhaps even a Factory 174 made tank! QED.

Ooookay, I'm about to order AFV Club tracks #35173 500 mm width cast links Type 1942 (workable) for T-34... I hope they're the correct set, at least they look a lot like kit provided vinyl tracks, and I hope they fit Zvezda drive sprockets as well. It will be a reconstruction, I managed to disassemble the hull, so I'll add more details if possible (at least I'll correct the back plate, I think there are missing bolt heads), I don't want to remove the paint, it is well done for a paintbrush so I'll paint the rest with brush. Thanks for your input. Best regards.
EDIT: I'd like to know which are the differences between vehicles made in the different factories, just to be sure... Isthere any good publication about that?
José.

The AFVC tracks should work well but I don't know about the fit. Just guessing, but I think they should be OK.
As far as books that ID the differences between the several factories, I can't recall any that have tried to tackle that specifically but Michulec's "Mythical Weapon" does a fairly good job (though the book is expensive and none of the drawings are 100% correct). Less expensive are the AJaKS-Military Books "T-34 Stalin's War Horse", "T-34 In Combat", and "T-34 Bloody Peace Maker". The drawing in those three books are also flawed (and the dates given for various productions I suspect are just guesses) but provide a generally good overview of the differences.
Also worth noting is the Soviet's had a factory system set up exclusively for the repair of worn out and knocked out tanks. The work done at those factories could be extensive, right down to rebuilding shattered hulls. This resulted in a huge number of "hybrid" tanks assembled from whatever usable or repairable parts came into the factory.

Done, I've just ordered the AFV Club tracks... I couldn't resist and I've ordered AFV Club T-34/76 Limited Edition as well, I got rid of the Tamiya T-34/76 model 1943 (this old kit has lots of flaws anyway), I think the model 1942 looks better. Best regards.

Hey Warren, two things. Where did you get the tracks and two, how is that Maquette T-34 going? You are a brave soul tackling that one.
