Hi All,
I'm looking for photos of the Soviet MAZ 537 tank transporter in combat with either the Russians innAfghanistan or any of the nations that used it in the mid-east.I am building the Trumpeter kit with the T-62 (or maybe even the Tamiya T-55) . Books or websites would be helpful-I did google it but didn't come up with anything useful. Thanks in advance for your help !

In Chechnya ...
Thanks for the pictures Dmitriy-those are what I'm looking for. The one from Chechnya is very interesting-is that some sort of self-propelled artillery on the trailer?

Yeah I think that was it. Another question for you and anyone else:
Did the Soviets use brown or black to camoflage their T-62Ms in Afghanistan ? I'm proabably going to use Trumpeters T-62 Mod. 1962 for the Maz-537. The Maz-537 I'll paint green, but I saw some pictures in Zalogas concord book titled "Armor of the Afghanistan War" of the T-62Ms and they look to have brown camoflage on them, but in the text (or maybe another of his books?) I believe he states that they were sprayed with black camo. Also, I am going to try to adapt the old Aires BDD update set to make a T-62M, even though it's made for the Tamiya T-62.

Hi Richard!
Brown or black camouflage on the T-62 in Afghanistan, and not only, I have not seen.
If there was, most likely in a single copy.
But this is unlikely ...
Basically, all the tanks were painted in green.
If possible, show the picture of Steven Zaloga.

Hi Dmitiry,
I read it somewhere , but can't recall where....maybe it was in the new (?) osprey book on the T-62.....but have not seen any photos or art work depicting them with any camo paint in Afghanistan. It seems like Afghanistan was a very mixed bag with Soviet vehicles. I've seen lots of pictures of BMPs with sand/light grey camo and some other softskins and trucks as well, but that's about it.

Actually, i'm looking at the concord book "Armor of the AfghanistanWar", (by Zaloga,Luczak and Beldam) right now and on page 10 or 11 (the pages are not numbered !) there are a series of pictures which show some sort of camoflage on the T-62s. On the next page there is a group of soldiers eating melon and behind them there is T-62 which clearly has a camo paint job on it...just can't really tell what the colors are....frustrating ! The captions say these tanks are form the Berlin Regiment of the 5th Guards Motor Rifle Division. Very interesting.....

Great images!
Yes, the vehicle is an 2S19 MSTA-S howitzer and the first two images shows parts of the SA-11 / Buk-system.
An intersting combination, when Panzershop will release its 2S19 howitzer-kit!
And also a SA-11 / Buk model kit would be very intersting for me.
greetings...

About walkarounds at Dishmodels.ru. There are technical problems with image storage server. So fullscale images are temporary unavailable. The site team is working on solving the situation.

Richard,
I found this pattern of color.
T-62M from the OKSV in Afghanistan. December, 1989
Light gray or sand color apply on the main green.
It is important to remember that in the Soviet army, camouflage painted on the green paint.

Dmitriy,
Wow-thanks that's great. Do you know what the slogan on the turret armor is? Some of the pictures I've seen of the Soviet withdrawal show some tanks with slogans on the sides....thanks again Dmitriy !

On the armor is written:
"Имени гв. рядового Тырина В.А."
(tank named after a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan)
Picture of better quality.
