What to build a 'BeutePanzer' version of one of these big SPG apparently 2 were caputued and used against their former owner!
I was wondering which kit to go for... the Cyber Hobby (got a feeling you'll all say this one?) or the Tamiya kit? any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!!!
While where on the subject of JSU-150's what are the differences (if any ) between the Russian WW11 version and the Chinese version used in Korea?
First post here on the Soviet Forum as I'm normally an Axis Tank-man be gentle!!!

Hey Klinker,
I just picked up the Tamiya kit and it's a far better kit compared to the older DML kit, maybe even the recent Orange Box kit.
The OB kit is probably cheaper but unless they've replaced the original kit's lower hull (too shallow) or the road wheels (undersized), the only advantage would be price.
The only outstanding thing about the old kit was the indy tracks, you almost didn't need glue to build them.
AFAIK, the ISU-152 used by the Chinese was identical to the ones used by the Soviet Union.
Cheers

Thanks for that "jjumbo" will have to keep an eye on ebay for a Tamiya version (LHS's charge like wounded bulls down here)!!! but are the faults you've outlined really noticeable on the Dragon kits?

Hey Klinker,
If you're not a stickler for accuracy, the DML kit doesn't look too bad.
From the photos here, it looks like they may have fixed the shallow lower hull
CH9112
The problem with the shallow hull is that the top run of the tracks are right up tight against lower part of the upper hull.
The fix, if required, is to shim the lower hull with some styrene strip, not too difficult a thing to do.
If the wheels are still undersized, it'll just look kinda odd.
The DML price looks right though compared to the Tamiya kit, mine cost me $77 CDN with 20% off from my LHS.
I have several of their other OB kits and they're not bad, the scout and sniper set is a bonus though.
Cheers

I wouldnīt keep that undersize roadwheel issue as a big thing. I read somewhere, that the error was something like 0,"X" mm in scale measurement. If you donīt tell, how could anyone know it. Bigger issue is that lower hull problem with too little space for tracks to fit in. One finnish armour modeller "guru" solved that with adding 1,5 mm square styrenerod between upper and lower hull. But then you have to cut lower hull a little bit shorter behind sprockets. From the spot, where you attach that part with two round service hatch. I have C-H Orange box kit but havenīt done any dry fitting to see, whatīs the case with upper and lower hull.

That was an build report on finnish modelling magazine in 2006 and he was building that old Dragon kit, not this new C-H kit. Looking photos of this new kit, it looks like there is enough space for tracks to fit between fenders and upper return rolls. That was the main prob with older kit. Roadwheel measurement error I read somewhere on the net, maybe on PMMS, donīt remember sure. Maybe someone, who has built C-H kit, could tell the truth.

Hi,
just a small correction: The depicted spg isn't a ISU 152, but a SU 152/KV-14, which is based on the KV-1s chassis.
Best wishes
Volker

Good call Volker,
I was thinking that too, the road wheels didn't look right and the towing hooks on the front hull looked wrong for the IS/ISU hull.
Cheers
