Ive acquired a Miniarm T-90S conversion and as I understand this is the export version of the T-90. However I came across a few pics of it next to Russian T-90's and which leads me to ask has the T-90S ever been used by the Russians?

Hi Rob

While researching my T-90 build and Diorama I found the following from the Moscow Defence Brief: Russian Army Operations and Weaponry During Second Military Campaign in Chechnya

Author Alexander PASHIN

The use of T-90S tanks in Dagestan deserves mention. A group of these vehicles consisting of 8 to 12 units according to different sources was supposed to be delivered to India. Following a sharp aggravation of the situation in the Caucasus, however, the tanks were transferred to Dagestan. In the Kadari zone one T-90 was hit by seven RPG anti-tank rockets(4) but remained in action. This indicates that with regular equipment T-90S is the best protected Russian tank, especially if Shtora and Arena defensive protection systems are integrated in it.

(4) Interview with the participants of the combat operations.

So it looks like it may have been unintentionally used as a stop gap measure.

The T-90 is basicaly a T-72. The T-72 got a bad reputation in Chechnya, and so as not to harm exports, the russians renamed it into the T-90.

Can I ask you were you acquired your T-90 stuff from, im having real trouble finding this stuff anywhere at a reasonable price. Theres someone on ebay selling stuff but its way overpriced!

Well, there wasn´t a lot of tank vs tank battle. And pls be fair and mention the "not so well trained" iraqi tank-crew. Don´t put their fault on the tank. Enough politics, let´s keep it a modelling-board!

Hi Rob,

Sorry for hijacking your tread, but really felt I should say that!
To your question:
I usually bought my miniarm stuff directly from miniarm. You will find their contact-adress on their homepage. You can also try historicahobbies.com Best service I´ve ever had and very good prices too!

Best regards,

Andreas

Rob,

You can buy "MINIARM" resin sets at - www.afvmodeller.com based in the UK which is the sales shop for the modelling magazine by the same name.

I have bought "Miniarm" sets for the T-64 / 72 & 90 from them and they are excellent to deal with. Fast service (mine all came within 48 hours) and when I had a problem with a few of the parts in the T-72B set that were damaged and missing, they sent the replacements out without fuss.

The stuff by Miniarm isn't cheap (anywhere) but I have found the AFV Modeller shop to be very competative. More importantly, it's UK based, you can discuss problems over the phone (which they actually answer!) and as mentioned, aftersales is excellent. If you buy something from an ebay seller /overseas and anything is missing/damaged - hey, it's a resin set! - you may have problems getting it resolved for the sake (posssibly) of buying on ebay a couple of quid per set cheaper.

Whenever I looked at AFV modellers shop they were always out of stock of miniarm sets. When I emailed them to ask when they would get more they ignored my email and never replied.

I ordered my sets directly from Russia from Armor35.ru. It's a bit of work, money transfer via western union and all, but I found the service to be great. I have used them on numerous occasions, in fact I just ordered a load of stuff from there yesterday for my BMP-2.

I guess the question is answered, they are in Russian service.

While the export model is often not sought by the Russian Military for service, they will not blanche at using them if they need/aquire them. The Russians have the T-72S in service (Export T-72B) from a failed deal with Iran and still have them around.

So model away with your Russian T-90S.
