Please pardon the photography (non)skills. Gotta work on that.
Anyway - this is Tamiya's M8 Grayhound with a couple DML Soldiers in front. The units probably don't match but I'm working on modeling technique here, not historical accuracy, and these were the closest figs to what I was looking for pose-wise that the local shop had.
The mud on the vehicle was done with DOA pigments. Brian's been pushing his paint here - but be sure to try out his pigments too!
The road mud was made with celluclay and DOA light brown pigment blended before adding water.
It's supposed to be a muddy road through a just plowed farm field.

Hi Scott. It looks the part, and the dirt looks realistic. Haven’t used these pigments.
I would prefer to see some tyre colour showing through the dirt. Even if this can happen in reality, the skill in modelling is adding dirt and still showing the detail, in my opinion. I would also think a little more about the composition of the piece. Road running parallel with the base, two figures placed equidistant from the M20 in front, hedgerow one green colour and perfect height, etc. Try to stagger things, and break up the "planned" lines. The piece looks more natural and attractive.

Much appreciated, Frank.
I thought of going diagonally, but I concentrated on learning how to make mud instead.
I'm going to guess overdoing with dirt and mud is a common thing for a padawan.
But - All things I will consider for my next effort!
The pigments are Devil Over the Atlantic (DOA) - Here's a review of his paints if you haven't read it

Hi Scott
I agree with Frank on the composition.
We all learn something with each model / diorama we build.
The most important part is to enjoy what you do!
Look forward to seeing more from you.
Regards
Garth

Nice looking mud. Two different shades looks very convincing..like old, dried mud and fresh stuff.
Keep em coming bud!

Hi, I like the mud, try to add to more "dust" over the model.
