So I have a Zvezda T-72B that isn't the best of kits. I was wondering if anyone knew of any kits to improve the quality of the tank? I have found the Verlinden sets but that is about it. About a week ago I found some other kits linked off of the reviews on this site but cant find them again, there weren't any prices listed so I wasn't to keen on buying them. The main thing I am looking for are some tracks. The ones included in the kit are just plastic panels (the top bottom and sides are each one flat piece).
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is a nice barrel at JB Models, they stock a fair selection of PE as well. There is a link to the their site on the side of the page.

Matthew,
MINIARM resin sets are not cheap but they are very good. Availability can be hit & miss and also if you buy any, thoroughly check the boxes as most of the sets I have bought have had either missing or damaged parts. Don't however let that put you off as the product itself is amongst the very best in AFV resin sets.
PRICE WISE - , Hull and turret conversion sets sell here in the U.K. for about £30.00 EACH (approx $50.00) and most conversions need a couple of sets as a minimum -i.e the new turret and also a upper hull insert to correct the kit item. Coupled to this, most of the updates for later T-72 versions need the later 6 spoke wheels and some new tracks are also pretty much essential if doing the project / conversion correctly.
THE BAD NEWS is - the Miniarm sets are designed for the TAMIYA 1/35 T-72 kit so they may not work with the Zvezda? Also having owned / inspected the Zvezda 1/35 T-72 kit, using Miniarm resin sets on the Zvezda kit is pretty much, I anticipate, a "lipstick on a pig" exercise. You could of course use the wheels from the Zvezda T-72 as they are the 6 spoke variety and Tamiya uses the earlier 8 spoke wheels.
Perhaps other modellers have used Miniarm T-72 sets with the Zvezda kit and can comment better re fit and suitability.....as well as dispell the "lipstick on a pig" comment!
I politely suggest though Matthew that you don't part with your hard earned cash for Miniarm sets BEFORE you know if they will be compatible with the Zvezda kit? Personally, I would sell the Zvezda kit (or save the wheels) and get hold of a Tamiya T-72........THEN order the Miniarm sets for your preferred T-72 version.
HTH and good luck!

This helps a bunch Gary. The only problem is I have already started the kit so I think I'll go with the JB Models Tracks and Barrel and the Verlinden upgrade sets and hope for the best. Thanks again for the help. This won't be started for another few weeks so I have some time to think about it.

Hi Matthew,
You are very welcome and thanks for the reply. I was unaware you had started it and don't want to 'poo - poo' the Zvezda kit offhand. It's just that Miniarm are expensive sets and it would be a bummer if you bought them only to find they did not fit or looked bad when attached to the model.
If you do eventually use the Miniarm sets you will not be disapointed as some fellow H.S. members have produced some cracking T-72 & 90 versions using these sets with the Tamya kit.
Sometimes really good resin or detail sets just make the base kit look even worst than it is as they serve only to magnify the shortcomings of the kit parts.
Be good to see the end result irrespective of which way you choose to build it.
Happy modelling mate!
Gary

The Miniarm piece will not fit the DML/Revell/Italeri/Zvezda kits without MAJOR surgery...the DML kits are too narrow to properly accept the Miniarm pieces.
The only conversions available right now that uses the non-Tamiya kits are either some from AEF Designs (not recomended) or the TOS-1 conversion from SP Designs.
