SU-100 premium edition question HELP!!!

in the premium edition SU-100 kit from Dragon, the instruction note that parts P-11,12 are "optional". these parts are two wedge looking shaped parts that go on the rear of the fighting compartment on the upper hull on either side.
Do these parts need to be installed or are they optional like the instructions indicate or does the parts determine a later or earlier production model etc....

What to do??? Can anyone clarify.......
