Stuart,
It would depend on what time line you want to depict.
If you want your BMP in Bosnia (for arguments sake) google search for images of Soviet or Russian vehicles (or BMPs) in Bosnia and see what you find.

I think that that Russian APCs are usually not as (over)loaded as their US counterparts. Here's a BMP-2 in South Ossetia :
from this BMP-2 thread
and here's a M113A3 in Iraq :

Hi Stuart,
IIRC Modelpoint used to have some Russian stuff reference in their range. Armo of Poland could have some too.

I'm working on a BMP-2 at the moment also and Frenchy is right, from the reference images I've seen Russian IFV's aren't loaded with that much stowage. It's mostly as that image shows, just some items near the rear roof hatches. I've also seen spare road wheels attached to the extra armor around the BMP-2D turret however, as well as tarps tied around the turret.

and bulk pack mg ammo, 30 mm round crates...........
I would tend to agree that they're less loaded up with kit.
