Hello. You get everything perfect. On the rear side door, you have to whittle away unwanted horizontal strip of plastic on the real machines that item no.

Thanks for the kind comments and the tip. If I'm right are you saying that the DML/Zvezda kit has incorrect rear door? That the raised detail should be removed? I wonder why Dragon included that, seems quite odd. Thanks for pointing it out though I totally overlooked that.

Thanks Claude thats very kind of you! The scratch building is a little rough around the edges and not so great, but I guess I have to start somewhere!

I read somewhere that the rear doors of the BMP-2 also hold fuel cells? Does anyone know if that is true? I only ask because originally I was planning to pose one of the figures behind the open door taking cover from small arms fire. However if its also a Fuel cell that would rule that out as it would be too dangerous? Then again the Infantry are expected to sit on top of the main fuel cell!

Making the doors fuel cells also seems really odd and very dangerous. In a combat area wouldn't they all just burn to death as they exit the vehicle if enemy fire hit those open doors?

Hi Jon,
yes this is true but I guess the doors are armored enough to prevent "unexpected" fire setting to the fuel.
On the other hand, fuel is reputedly a good protection againt hollow charges but in the case of the BMPs as you get nothing after the door fuel cell, I fear this is of no help at all.
Another drawback of the fuel cell is the increase in the door weight. I remember a discussion with a former infantry leader telling one his guys had been crushed by the door being slammed shut for some reason while he already had his legs outside ! The poor guy did not survive to his injuries.

Good job on fixing the central fuel cell BTW !

Thanks Olivier

That sure is interesting. Perhaps then I can still get away with posing one of the passengers behind the open rear door after all

My next challenge is the firing ports on the inside of the passenger section. I'm still deciding the best way to work on these, it'll be tricky though as the space inside is so small...

The tent isn`t on it`s place
that`s why those who`re sitting in the troop compartment couldn`t escape

Yes the rear doors and hull access hatches on the BMP 1 and 2 contain fuel cells, however ive read that these are generally not filled, unless the vehicle is travelling long distances, also the likelihood of the fuel actually igniting from a hit is slim.

Check this thread on militaryphotos.net for some details provided by an actual BMP crewman:

Hi Aleksey, I'm not sure I understand. What do you mean by tent?

I'm actually in Minsk now with my wife, I see you are from Brest?

Andreas,
Its the AT-5 Spandrel and launcher. The brass part is from Modelpoint and is quite nice.
