Try here for resin sets to convert Tamiya's T-72:
http://www.miniarm.com/index.php?menu=afv-t72

I don't know anything about their quality/accuracy but I'm sure others here will. Good luck...!!

cheers;

The Tamiya T-72M1 and some nice resin from Miniarm is what you'll need. Or you can take a chance and wait for the to-be-released plastic kit from Zvezda (if and when it will come).

Here you can see Jon's nice T-90 build in the diorama forum.

Cheers,

Thanks for the props Erik!

Matan, as others have said you can go the Tamiya plastic T-72 as a base kit with Resin upgrades from Miniarm (as I did), alternatively there is a AEF Designs T-90 complete kit, although I can't comment on accuracy as I've never seen it myself.

There are various levels of Aftermarket kits you could go for. Depending on how much accuracy you want. The essentials though are a Turret (either of Miniarms depending on what model T-90 you want. I built a T-90A) and the Hull front glacis.

I'd also recommend some T-90 tracks (Miniarms are very good).

If you really wanted you could also replace the wheels, however you could get away with using the Tamiya base kit if you wanted an early model T-90.

Kirin also did a T-90 kit (see Jacques post) however as Jacques points out it isn't really a T-90 but a T-72BM

It seriously depends on how accurate you want for a T-90. Really.

For a REALLY accurate T-90 you need:

Tamiya T-72 kit
Eduard T-72 Zoom PE
Miniarm T-90 Front Glacis
Miniarm T-90 turret
Miniarm T-90 tracks

Miniarm T-90 road wheels are really only needed if you want to build the earlier cast turret T-90. All the welded turret T-90's I have seen have the style of wheel that Miniarm offers, ie the 6 "spoke" wheels. No, I would not recommend using any DML wheels instead.

This will cost you a fair penny, and will take a bit of time to pull off, but you will have a very accurate T-90.

Thanks for the comments and info!
The tank i want to model is the T-90R (or so it says in the video game i'm playing).

I'll have a look at the miniarm conversion kits.
Cheers

Edit: couldn't find the sets in spruebrothers, GM, LM or jadar. Only hlj has it but it's out of stock

Very confusing statemen there. All T90s used the six spoke wheels, cast or welded turret.

Video games are not a source for research. I assume you haven't looked at Historica Books for Miniarm.

No, video games aren't a source for research, but that's how I got the idea of what I want to build.

You dont need to folk out a lot of money on Miniarms wheels, DML's old T-72 w/ERA comes with the six spoke wheels, and you can pick the kit up very cheap (mainly because its a pile of crap)Unless someone can say otherwise I havent heard any problems with DML's wheels, but dont hold me to that.

It also depends what T-90 you wish to build. The earlier T-90S (which is mainly an export model) does use the earlier style T-72 Rmsh tracks, and has the cast turret (I personally I think looks cooler!)

If you need some reference then drop me a message, ive amassing reference pics from online sources as I too plan to do a T-90 some time soon.

That's very kind Rob. I think I will go for the T-90S version, as it's the closest to the one I want to build

Im building a whelded turret version right now. If You need reference pics or advise about the conversions just PM me. I got my conversion from Hobbyeasy. Probably they are much more reliable than the manufacturer. I recall a member here had some problems with them a few years ago concerning an order. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/117582#968553

Yes I too contacted miniarm directly about placing an order and never heard anything back, this was about a month ago now, luckily I didnt send any money. But yes your best option is to try HobbyEasy, they seem to offer the best prices as well.

I recomend Historica Hobbies to get the Miniarm pieces state-side. However, Andy is out until April 5th, so...

As for the wheels, I meant to say that while a EARLY T-90 may have had the 8-spoke wheels like the ones in the Tamiya kit, you really should use the 6-spoke wheels that Miniarm provides.

And I would not agree that the DML wheels are worth looking into. They are incorrectly sized and they do not fit the Tamiya kit easily. You will end up doing more work for less accuracy, and if you are going to drop the $$$ on the other pieces, you might as well not cheap out on the roadwheels.

Honestly, it would be better if Miniarm just sold the conversions in one box, but then the $$$ would be sky high and probably kill sales. Oh well.

We'll just have to wait and see in regard to the zvezda model.

Checked hobby - easy, looks like the prices there are lower than other places. does anybody know if they accept paypal?

It's vaporware. It's been in the "pipeline" for 4 or 5 years. Don't hold your breath.

Now come on, I'm sure Zvezda will deliver soon. Why, I have complete faith that, er, that they will, um, any minute no. . . [giggle] I mean, we'll [hee hee], um, er BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA , whoo, chuckle snort. Ahem

Yeah, don't hold your breath. It'd be lovely if they do but at this rate Trumpeter will have come out with one and the T-80 series before we see one from Zvezda, and Trumpter hasn't dropped any hints that they're working on either. . .
