Great job Keith! I've busted out my 1/48 M4A3E8 and dry fit a few of the major components. Hopefully I can achieve the same results with my tiger scheme as you did

Andrew: Nice work on the Chaffee! Looking forward to seeing your next build

As molded, the kit has a gun nose. The photo nose is supplied as two halves. There is a trench on the inside of the fuselage to use as a cutting guide to remove the gun nose. What you see is my attempt to flare the camera nose, much wider than the gun nose, back to the rest of the fuselage.

Gentlemen,
Hopefully, below you should see the final shots of my F9F-5 from Monogram. It may not have come out that Great, but it has been a very enjoyable build. With this, I will call this entry completed, and go digging through my stash for the next victim ! Any and all critiques are welcomed.....Thanks, Guys. Semper Fi......Bruce

Hello -

I don't build aircraft but from what I can see, yours is top notch. Excellent build. I especially like the cockpit, very nice detail and colors.

Andrew - Great Chaffee and base. No slowing you down - have fun with the E8

Keith - I too hope the best in painting my 1/48 tiger face. Thanks for showing your hand panting technique.

Bruce - that's an Awesome Bird!

Gents,
Thank you very much for the kind words. Essentially that is exactly what Monogram gave us in the "Good Old Days". At any rate I thoroughly enjoyed the build, and might even go for another before the end of the year (Korean War - Monogram kit ). But for now, I'll catch up on my model mag reading ! Semper Fi, Guys !

Bruce, looks really great from where I stand (or rather sit...) Great to hear you considering another one! Don't forget to put at least one pic in the campaign gallery. It's a site requirement for the ribbon.

Cheers!

I thought I'd try a little SBS on my method for assembling the HVSS suspension units. There are a lot of parts that can be left moveable, and a couple of small springs involved so it could be a bit fiddly. The first thing I did was assemble Q5&Q6, the base of the suspension assembly, and set them aside to dry. Next I glued Q13 and Q14 to Q1 and made sure those had time to dry. This is critical becasue Q11 and Q 14 are the pegs against which the HVSS springs will rest. Finally I put two of the Q1 Assemblies (there are two per suspension unit) on to the base (Q5and Q6) and secured them in place with part Q12. Once all these parts had dried I was ready for the next step which was installing those pesky HVSS springs.

Stephan,
Duhhhh......Thank you for reminding me to upload to the campaign gallery. (A mind is such a terrible thing to waste ! )

At any rate, I'm going to relax a little now. (But you know, the Monogram AD-6 sure looks awful temping right now ! )

Take it easy, Gang, and keep building....................Bruce

Guy when I made my M4A3 105 I left the springs out because nothing seem to align correctly. Maybe I was to inpatient. I'll be following your build because I have a Orange box POA-CWS-H5 and has the same HVSS.

Nope, not impatient. Leaving the springs out, in my opinion, is the only way to align the parts.

Andrew and Wayne when I saw how busy the instructions were, and thought about those tiny springs, I was really worried. I gave it a lot of thought before starting and when it came out so well I decided to post it as an SBS. My problem has been getting the rest of the pictures to load! While I was taking the pictures I actually disassembled and reassmbled the completed unit several times to re-take pictures I didn't like. Once you know the trick the springs are no big deal to use and the finished units look really nice. I'll try to post the remaining pictures tonight.

So many great works in this campaign. May I join with a Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog? Unfortunately I don’t have any PE sets and it will be out of the box.

Eetu, fantastic job on the Mustang! congrats on finishing!

Vladmir, check out the discussion on the first two pages of this thread. According to Bruce a pre-production run of the M41 was used in Korea (it is generally thought it was never used in Korea). Unfortunately Bruce is out of action for a while, so we can't have any more details on that. So I guess you're okay with the M41 as long as it has markings that could have been in Korea.

Cheers!

Thanks Stefan,

Here is my M41 in the box; I have already started building it! I must say that this is an old set and has many flaws! I hope to get it done soon!

Vladimir, I am building the same kit for the campaign and had no problems. It went together in about 8 hours, now to paint and weather.

I got this one started years ago and then got delusions of adequacy. IIRC I filled on all the motorizing holes in the bottom of the chassis and then filled the bottom of the sponsons(SP?) on the rear of the main deck. Think I also tried putting clear plastic in the driver's view ports. It's in a box somewhere now...

I promised Andrew and Wayne an update with more pictures on how I'm doing the HVSS suspension units on my M4A3 HVSS POA-CWS-H5 so here goes.

I assembled the HVSS springs and compressed them with tweezers. Forgive the picture but it's the best I could do holding the part and taking the picture!

Next I placed the HVSS springs in place so that the cradles lined up with parts Q13 and Q14 on the unit.

Since both Q1 parts were left moveable it really is pretty simple.
The brass tubes (MB2) can then be slid on to longer of the cylinders that hold them in place (Q9 and Q8) slide the brass part on as far as possible

Then you can swing the brass piece into place and line it up with the other side of the cyclinder (Q10 and Q11) and slide it over onto the short rod (Q10 abd Q11)

Here are some more shots of the finsihed units. The rubber portion of the road wheels is only dry fitted. I'll remove them for paining after shooting everything OD.

I hope this made sense. I've never tried to explain this in writting before!
