I've managed to complete this model last week and today I took some photographs. The mix up of different colored ERA blocks and the various shades of each of the four different cammo colors were very inspirational. I had a lot of fun painting this model.
Painting the figures was a challange on its own. I choose a Russian VSR cammo even though I haven't seen any Georgian crew wearing it. In fact it turned out te be very difficult to find any photographs of Georgian crews that would shed a light on their uniforms and gear. But since some of these tanks have been 'liberated' by the Russian 58th army and send back to Russia I gave the VSR cammo a try.
I hope you like the results.

Marcel,
You weren't kidding when you said wait and see. This is by far one of the most amazing finishes I have seen on a Russian vehicle. Hats off to you

Great work Marcel, but do you have any close up shots of the Tankers? I'd love to see the tank crew a little better.

Excellent finish Marcel ! How did you manage to create this subtle chipping paint on the ERA tiles ? Doing it one after the other must have been a real pain.

Thanks my friends! Your comments are very much appreciated.
A painting technique secret: The sponge technique for quick chipping results.
Get yourself some foam, a very dense type like from packaging material, and tear a very small piece from it. It should be small enough to clamp down with tweazers. If you have self-clamping tweazer those are even better!
Use a dark brown color for your chips, like Vallejo German Camo Brown or Humbrol 170 (oop). Dip, or more like gently touch, your foam in the paint, wipe away the excess and test a few times on white paper what it will look like. Then apply the sponge/foam to the model and try to stick to the edges of the various shapes on the model where damage is most likely.
Add some variations with different shades or even rust colors (haven't done it on mine so I have still some work to do!). In some cases it's best to replace your sponge after a couple applications as it should not act as a stamp (beware of replicating the exact same shape of chips..)
Good luck,
Marcel

Thanks for the answer Marcel. I've already used this technique but with less realistic results than you got!

Thanks guys. I'm very grateful for all your input and comments!
I wasn't sure how this model, and especially the colorful paint job, would do with modellers. This cacophony of colors is the exact opposite of what we are used to see on a T-72 and the risk of messing up the paint job, or modellers question my sanity, was very real.
I guess, judging by all of the response I got the past 24 hours, I did well.
Again, thanks for all of your comments. On to the next challenge.

What ground work products did you use for the foliage?

This is a very awesome build Marcel, the paint finish and weathering are really fantastic and look incredibly realistic! Makes me want to press on with my T-72B now.
