tell your friend, it looked awesome. I especially like the non-weathering aspect, and non-seam covering aspect of the build. The pilots looked um....different....

Overall, a nice build and a rather different paint job that is refreshing to the eyes.

Should be able to encourage a lot of people to try modeling.

I personally would like to see a dark wash on it and some dry brushing. The former to show off shadow/dark areas such as the rocket pod tube opening and the detail around the cockpit and canopy opening 'shocks'. The later to bring out the detail such raised panel lines, handles etc.

Are the pilots in the training hoods for night vision training? I really can't tell?

The positives - well built, nice clean contruction, the canopy looks well done for a large clear surface area. The paint is well applied nice and even good color.

I'm guessing this is the Revell 1/32 kit? Biggest improvement would be to remove the crew figures and make do without them - they're hideous, not the modellers fault, but Revells.

It doesn't look like the canopy is properly fitted into the fuselage at the front, and the sprue attachment point on the bottom of the front-seaters (gunners) raised side window is readily apparent.

The glue damage on the rocket pod leads me to believe that the model wasn't painted except for the black areas - huge room for improvement there. Painting after assembly would cover up those glued seams.

Then of course there are the more advanced techniques that could be applied - washes, drybrushing, etc.. These things really do weather like tanks.

Basic assembly is great, and I'll give you kudos for trying to make the most of the kit figures, but they really are beyond help.

I am sorry Cat, if my initial comment sounds harsh. I am sure you did the best that your skills/supplies permits. And it's a good try, and I am looking forward to more model pictures from you. Thanks for sharing

I'm glad you shared the pic with us Cat. It looks like you may not have painted the whole model... And some of the glue is visible..
The important thing is that you built the best you could, and shared it with us. A good job, and you get to have some feedback on your strengths and weeknesses. Your next one is bound to be better

Lord Se, It seems that it's not Cat's model, but I don't know I am abit confused myself. I mean comes to the bottom line, he is trying hard, so he is going to get better.

Sel, see my reply to Dave's post about who the model belongs to. Oh and stop using my avartar #:-)

I'm sorry cat, thought it was your work Sorry for the mix up. Sure the builder has some skills to learn and master, we all do. But at least he is brave enough to post his models for review and advice .

Tell him/her to keep on modeling, and keep us posted.

Im sorry I stripped the paint of my first model ... Academys M1a1. If I posted it here, maybe your friend would have more confidence!
We all started out one day ... and Im sure not too many of us produced gold winners first time. Your friend has the right attitude ... show the model ... listen to advice... buy another and try to improve. After 2.5 years modelling ... Im still doing this. We all are probably doing this.
When I stripped the M1, I repainted it and covered areas like the gun barrell with camo nets and the racks in stowage ... just to hide the original poor job and make it half decent.
With a little paint work and TLC, he still can improve the chopper and learn quite a bit at the same time!! Its a perfect kit to try out some drybrushing and washing on.

Cat, who's the maker of the apache? Have you decalled yet? if not, you might consider to put on a gloss coat first to make the decal easier.
