Hello, I will have a chance to spend some time in Poland this summer and will have lots of free time. I am wandering if anyone can suggest places I can visit to beef up my museum photo collection. I am, of course, more interested in Russian stuff. I will be in Lodz, but willing to travel... Thanks for your help, Dmitry
PS: Taking requests as well.

Well, there are several museums with russian armor in better or worse condition (both the museums and the exhibits), but if you want to see real diamonds and pearls you HAVE to go to Poznan to visit "Centrum Szkolenia Wojsk Ladowych" (The Training Cetre of Ground Forces, more or less ). It is not easy to get there, because it is located in military unit, so you have to make an appointment with Cpt. Tomasz Ogrodniczuk, quite busy and hard to catch person. Still the effort is absolutely worth it. Unlike other museums, most of the AFVs (mostly WWII, including IS-2 and IS-3) gathered there are still in almost "ready to battle" state.
They also have fully operational StuG IV, that was digged out from Rgilewka river and put back to life by Cpt. Ogrodniczuk and bunch of enthusiast gathered amongs him.
The museum has a website, unfortunately most of it is in Polish: http://www.sturmgeschutziv.pl/en/muzeum-broni-pancerej-cswl . Cpt's Ogrodniczuk phone number is +48 61 857 51 66.
"Muzeum Wojska Polskiego" (The Museum of Polish Army) in Warsaw is also worth to mention, espacially the technical part located in Powsinska Street (The Citadel). Their website with the addresses (again only in Polish, what a poor offer for foreigners!) http://www.muzeumwp.pl/mapka.php .

Thank you, Marcin.
Do you know if this Captain speaks English and anything I can say to make them more likely to show me around. It seems like its extra work for them with no benefit...
Thanks,
Dmitry

If you are planning to visit south-eastern Poland you can visit Dukla.
http://muzeumdukla.pl/

There is also a museum in Svidnik (Slovakia) 50km from Dukla.
Oh, if you need translator I live ~30 km from there

Hi Andrzej, That looks cool too. I'll have to figure out a way to get around cheaply from Lodz - I do not really want to rent a car. Any advice on transportation?

Well... trains are cheap... but on the other hand there's a reason fot that and you won't travel quick with them...
I'd have to check how long would it take to travel with by bus.
As soon as I have this kind of knowlage I let you know.

A.
