Hello comrades
I want to show you my model that I built in the past holidays.
It's Zvezda's kit built "from box" with a few alterations (towing cables, electrical wires on a turret, RB Model barrel).
Model shows vehicle used by Iraqi 3rd Armoured Division "Saladdin".
Greetings

nice looking model.
I'd do another go with washes, or maybe 2, to get them unified and to "bump out" the details. also, some drybrushing with a lighter base color on raised surfaces would help to bring them out.
cheers!

Hi
I second Matan's advice and I would add give some paint on the various lights and searchlights.

I agree, the vehicle´s color looks a bit too "clean" or "uni-colored".
Some washes, or dry-brushing could help.
But also... it´s a nice build with the scratched details!
greetings...

Good looking build! I agree with the others comments. Kit Tracks? They look pretty good! Were they fussy to work with?
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for comments and ideas for improving the model.
Rick, tracks are from kit, they are very difficult and fussy to glue.
Greetings, Lucas
PS. And one photo from my workshop:

This is now the old or the current Iraqi military vehicle?
Because a lot of us were given the vehicle was a Hungarian, completely renovated, which has no wear, rust.
The bright tracks in the sand abrasion, but initially they were given a black coating.

The Iraqi army has taken over the Hungarian carrying tanks and fighting vehicles, which India has offered the Iraqi armed forces - announced on Saturday at the Defence Ministry in Baghdad.
India a total of 77, extracted from decommissioned T-72 tanks and 36 armored troop donated to Iraq. In this Agreement, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany at the end of last year's visit came after Iraq, after it called on the nations of NATO, to promote stability in the Arab countries.
The tools offered in mid-October, left Hungary. The acceptance of the Tajik base south of Baghdad took place. Száleh Szirhán Major-General reported that the Iraqi defense ministry for more than $ 3 million spent on the modernization of combat vehicles, but even this small amount in comparison with that into which they would have been new.

Nice work, and a nice looking model.
How was the kit as far as overall fit? Did it need a lot of filling and sanding? Any major problems you encountered?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting one.. and T-80 as well.
Cheers

Thanks for sharing the iraqui tank images!
Some of them looks very "different colored" after washing.
(more yellow, not sand)
But, perhaps these were cleaner than other verhicles in european or other western locations. Now I could think so.
greetings...

I'd rather suggest you to buy the Tamiya one. This ex-Dragon-Revell-Zvezda kit is a piece of It can be built into a nice model, I did not encounter any big problems, but it has a lot of uncorrectable errors, the shape of the turret is totally wrong, smoke grenade launchers are in an a bad direction (but were corrected this time - nice job), angle of the front hull, etc...
All in all, this is a very old kit, it can be built into a nice T-72, but it's far not perfect.
Ps.: the ex-Hungarian T-72s were repainted and renovated.
Cheers, Adam

Hi,
This model shows vehicle used in First Gulf War.
Hisham, Zvezdas kit is an old kit of DML. It has a lot of defects, it isn't as good as Tamiyas kit. There is a lot of filling, sanding and replacing parts. I also saw a T-80 from Zvezda, and I think that's very difficult to build a good model, compatible with the real tank.
Greetings, Lucas
PS. And next update of story about Abrams

Hello Luksaz, I think you did a good job on your t-72. I tend to get cheaper kits so that i can buy more of them so I am familar with the problems you encountered. You did a good job. I prefer more refined painting like the other guy's. My dad prefers less ( he builds more kits a year than I do ) to each there own way. have fun, good luck on your next build.

The Zvezda T-72 and T-80 kits are Dragon/DML molds dating from 1989, when the Soviet Union was still in business, and all things military were still top secret, so the kits had to be based on drawings derived from long distance photos. Virtually all dimensions and details are wrong, to one extent or another, and it was Dragon's bad luck that the end of the Cold War allowed closer examination of the actual equipment right after the kits were released. Dragon opted to ditch their Cold War Soviet molds, rather than try to correct or update them, which is why they now turn up in Zvezda or Revell-Germany boxes.
Tamiya's T-72 is much better, though it depicts a limited-production, "oddball" variant built for the East German Army. It needs either an earlier hull or a later turret to depict the more common models.
Skif's T-80 kits are slightly more accurate than the Dragon/Zvezda versions, but Skif's kits are still generally poor compared to other manufacturers (there are resin corrections available for the T-80, but they are expensive).

Hi Guys!
Charllli, decal with this inscription were in Zvezdas kit. I know that this kit is not good base to build fine model. I bought it to practice painting. In the near future I will build a Polish T-72M1 from Tamiyas kit with a lot of additions.
Cheers, Lucas
