Gday mates , I'm finishing off a kit I've been dawdling over for about a year now , Tamiyas T55a .
I've got to step 17 and there is a part # C11 to be glued between the hatches on the turret roof .
But what is it ?
Is it some kind of signalling flag or is it vital kit ?
Help please .

sorry for blurry pic , used the phone
Thanks mates

Its the driver's IR lens that fits into a milled slot beside the driver's periscopes. You do have some lee way as where to put it, I've seen them mounted in numerous places - even on the turret sides. The real one is mounted on peg legs and welded onto something.

Just curiosity... I'd like to know the purpose of that part (in the actual tank), I've seen at the left side of the turret in some tanks. Best regards.

Hi mates , well this build is nearly finished , heres a couple pics FYI

I've used some Eduard etch , blast wire for grab handles and my friend Andrew turned the aluminium barrel , Thanks mate .
I have a question regarding the engine screens on the rear deck , Eduard shows covers for the screens and I've seen photos of T55's with them on the rear deck .
Would they be installed on say a Russian T55 during the invasion of Afghanistan ?
Or should I leave them off ?
Help appreciated .

Hi Brian
These covers prevent water from seeping into the engine compartment when the tank is snorkeling. The T-62 has similar panels. I would make an educated guess and say that they were not of much use in the Afghan theater of operations, so they were not fitted None of the T-62 period pics I have show them. On a side note, it seems to me that much of the tanks deployed there were T-62s rather than T-55s...
So it's up to you

Hey Frenchy thanks ,
I've seen so many T55's in photos of the tank graveyards in Afghanistan I think I'll go with it .

Looks very nice, about all you need is the armoured cables for the lights, and if you're so inclined the vent behind the turret.

Hi mates , well not much progress , we are on full demobilisation as the project I'm working on is finishing .
Also the wind has been blowing hard , my battle pod was swept off the table just after I took pics breaking the fin off the top , bugger .
Fixable though , just gotta drill and pin to strenghten before glueing .
Kevin , thanks for reminding me about the headlight cables , I've seen it done . And have a pic for reference . Not sure about the vent though ? Can you help please ?
Jeremy , thanks for the compliments bro , I found the battle pod at a swap and sell , and without knowing anything about it handed over my $10.00 .
Its a quick build , need to get back south to finish painting it .
Take care

What vent? The blower hole was located on the RHS of the turret at the bottom of the turret's side. The T-62 had one located in the rear.
