Hi everyone!
After some researching, I'm now more confused than before, due to the so many variants of th T-72's...
Can you direct me in the best way to convert the Tamiya kit to get an accurate iraqi tank during OIF (circa 2003)?
I guess I have to replace the glacis, but not too sure about what aftermarket option is the best
The same questions go for turret...
I plan to build it as a wrecked tank, so some unaccuracies may be tolerated or "concealed" with the damage suffered by the vehicle
Hijacking my own topic, should it be easier to choice Trumpeter T-62 Mod. 1973 kit to depict an iraqi destroyed one? Same questios for aftermarket needs....
Thanks for any advice!!

Howdy Hugo(?),

There is no need for changing the front on the Tamiya hull. Iraq had T-72's (T-72M1) with that extra armour plate. The "problem" with that kit should be the turret that is not correct for that type of hull (except for thirty some East German vehicles). A T-72A or M1 turret from Miniarm or Blast should do the trick, but on the other hand you might not want to use an expensive resin turret for a knocked out vehicle. Perhaps some putty on the Tamiya turret will do the trick.

Cheers,

Hi Erik
Yes, its Hugo...
I had the same thought about using a U$ 40/50 resin turret for a damaged vehicle, even more since the Tamiya kit costs about half that price
I think I'll go for modifying the kit's front turret and so, instead of replacing it.
Thanks for your advice on the hull front, too!!
Still thinking about changing the subject for a Trumpy's T-62, even with its already known flows

The Iraqi made T-72, Lion of Babylon had glacis armour, rear armor added, and spaced armor on the front portion of the turret. They also featured some Iraqi one offs like the diverted exhaust. Republican guard divisions used these T-72s and they were still around during the invasion in 2003. It seems after OIF 1 they no longer used the dazzler, but the mount remained. There is also some mention of a Belgian FCS used but I dunno....

Like Erik said, you can use Tamiya's T-72, but re-contour the shape of the turret which would be more work than it's worth unless your wanting to do that. Your other options with the T-62 would be alot easier to manage since all you need to get it trumpeter's T-62 mod 73 and build it straight out of the box. The kit even comes with two styles of mantles one with out the dust cover and one with the cover. Just a few examples
