I have completed my summer-long conversion of an M109 howitzer into an M992A2 FAASV (Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle). The build-thread can be seen here. I have wanted to build an M992A2 for a long time. I am finally glad to have one in my collection. I have marked it as a FAASV from 1-41 FA, 3ID during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Eventually, I will do an M109A6 Paladin from 1-41 FA to go with it.

Here is the final piece.

As always, all comments are welcomed. Let me know what you think.

I followed your build with great interest, thought several times to try to do one of these. Your finished product is great, the attention to detail is amazing. Cograts one a fine build. Don M.

Gino,

Your Armored Ammo Carrier looks great! I really like the look of the flaked paint on the rear mudflaps. It's pretty cool that these have MK19s mounted on them (ties in with the indirect fire theme).

You should have better pictures taken of it for a build feature.

I noticed one item appears to be missing, but I'm not an Arty expert. This image from PrimePortal shows Tow Shackles mounted on brackets on each side of the rear door.

At the very least, you should drill holes in the brackets if you don't have the shackels.

Just trying to help...

Thanks to all of you for the compliments. It was a fun build. I got a lot of satisfaction out of it.

Jeff, the tow points on the rear do have the holes in them. You just can't see them from that angle. The shackles themselves are not always mounted. You can see the holes in this pic.

As to the Mk-19, usually each howitzer section (which includes the M109A6 and M992A2) has one M2 .50 cal and 1 Mk-19. The .50 cal is usually mounted on the howitzer and the Mk-19 is usually mounted on the FAASV.

Thanks for checking in.

Thanks for the compliments Jaymes. Nothing new for a while. I'm busy with a commission and the buyer requested I not post about it. Its something I have already built and posted before anyways.

Outstanding work there Gino. Very impressive indeed. I've always wondered when they gonna make a kit of this.

Thanks Alex. Now that I have scratched it, I have heard rumors that a kit is in the works. As usual, scratch "Build it and they will come" in plastic kit form. You're welcome.

Hi Gino I'm excited, your model has on me. Note 1 with *****. It looks very good, a great building. Much better than my kit from Nimix.
Greetings
from Germany
