Greetings! This is my first venture into Canadian armor and I've been looking forward to this for a while..especially seeing all the other different available kits now. So I couldn't resist and had to get RealModel's Conversion.
I've seen a lot of blogs on this kit and what I hope to do here is to depict the LAV as close to a real one in Afghanistan.
Thus I'll appreciate any photos of it in A-stan..please email me at [email protected]
I'm looking for something Unique hopefully....in regards to added gear and equipment.,etc. Based on the review I read here, I figure I'll be building an early Coyote version without the surveillance suite telescoping mast Or with it, but Stowed away.
Are there any Interiors available?
Any suggestions for Crew, Soldiers and Gear/Equipment?
THANKS!
I'll post the photos for the Resin and Plastic kit soon. The first thing I'm going to work on will be the Steering as I did with my Stryker.

Don't think you can do this one as an Afghanistan vehicle as it depicts the hull without the applique armour. Good for a Canadian based one though, maybe early SFOR. Unless of course you want to scratchbuild all the applique and add it on to the hull, it's an option!

I think it was a few weeks or even months after they deployed the Coyotes to 'Stan before the add on armour was installed. So technically they were deployed without, but for a very short time frame.

Thanks Rick, wasn't 100% sure (waiting for Anthony to chime in!) I know he had photos somewhere of early deployment but couldn't remember if they were armoured or not. Nick I'll get in touch, I have some photos.

Yeah, I think you could do a tan painted one for erly Afghanistan Op APOLLO, or a white painted one for Op ECLIPSE (UNMEE).
edit: yeah, like that pic above... durr..

Yup, it would be an early version of the Coyote 2002. When they arrived we waited almost two weeks until the add on armour to arrive.
Nick, drop me a PM as I was on the 2002 tan Coyote tour, and have photos, and will help you out with the build.

Thanks for the quick replies! A nice welcome here!
I'm resisting the temptation to scratch the applique ..but I'll like to build stuff on sequence/evolution.
Graeme, thanks for that link..completely forgot about it.
Jim, please email me whatever info and pics at [email protected]

Should be a great project Nick, looking forward to seeing some progress!
As an aside - i read an article recently in a mag here about ASLAV-25 Phase 4 - our current ASLAV's are mostly Phase 3.. They will have the same add on armour as the USMC LAV-A2, amongst other goodies. Oddly, they are keeping their amphibious capability. I fail to see how they'd float with all the extra stuff on em!
Will post pics up here somewhere when they come to light

Hey Sam,
I'm really looking forward to getting this one going, I got all the parts cleaned up in the next couple days and will post pics.
There's so much cool Canadian, Aussie and Kiwi armor kits these days and I'm dying to tackle the Leo 2A6M w/Slat, ASLAV PC and various ASLAV Phase versions...Hmmm more like All of them!
Incidentally it's your build that got me wanting to do an ASLAV PC..When I can get my hands on one, I'll get 2 kits and do a Slat version as well!
I'm looking forward to seeing that Phase 4 photos...And I'm sure ACM and Mouse House are looking forward to get it Kit-ed as well!
Who know why they keep the amphibious ability, doesn't it prove more trouble than worth being mostly in a dusty setting?

How do you fish from an LAV???
OK, Just a quickie update, I've been very busy with my clients builds so I've had lesser time to put into my personal projects..Yes this one too.. But I'm doing the best I can
I made the modifications for steering the wheels of course.. I think that's become mandate with all my builds now.
Removed the appropriate parts, plugged all the holes with styrene, then superglue with a zip kicker, sanded smooth.
And made some minor details to the resin bits.
Had to line the rear edge with 0.13mm styrene sheet to fill the gap between the resin rear portion.. I'm not sure if the gap was due to my error in removing too much from the resin part or something else...None the less problem was solved easily.
I super glued thin cut outs of styrene rods to the photoetch parts..(the rods represent the mount/bolts that's supposed to be there) So gluing and positioning them to the hull was at ease cause it's plastic to plastic.
Added the port-side aft hatch from a M1130 Stryker kit (to be converted into and IDF ICV version)
Next step will be adding all the brakeline cabling, etc and the mounts for the uparmor package... and I need to confirm with Milo about the hollow rings included in this conversion.

Thanks for the update, it's looking good!
I agree that turning the wheels makes a world of difference and really adds life to the model. Just remember to turn the front axle more sharply then the second one.
cheers

Thanks guys,
Rick, yeah, turning wheels is a must-do..especially after putting all the details done...I always have a tough time making that modification... The front ones turn more then the second, but both not as much as they should...but better than nothing I guess.
Thanks for your Coyote blog BTW, it sure helped with my build.

I've run into a hiccough on my kit, which I noticed wasn't a problem for you. On the rear left side of the ASLAV hull, there's no panel cover for the surveillance equipment. I see you've put in a green panel cover. Where'd you get it? How'd you get it replaced in there so slickly?

HI Quentin,
The left side hatch was taken from the AFV M1130 kit since I'm converting it into an IDF Stryker ICV M1126 version. I eyeballed where the hatch would go, marked it out and then took the right side armor plating, part "N1", and marked out the cut-out for the hatch with a scriber onto the Coyote's hull. I drilled along the scribed area and cut the rest out, then cleaned and shaped it with files, all the while test fitting the hatch. I also glued some sheet styrene to the backside of the hatch extending out from the sides, as the sheet will be glued to the inner side of the Coyote's hull.
Forgive the fumbling with words..my brain isn't functioning proper recent.
Anyways.. distance of the bottom part of the hatch from the lower edge of the hull is 5mm. From the right end og the hull to dead centre of the hatch (between the 2 circle mounts) is 19mm.
If I'm not clear let me know I'll edit a photo with measurements.
