Modelling the 1/35 Revell SU-100 and I am getting towards the time when to choose whether it should be a 1945 SU-100 or a later SU-100M (hope I have my facts right here bit of a AFV novice.)

Needing a little help (firstly, thanks to Jacques for pointing me in the direction of his SU-100 Blog, a very neat build!)

What countries used the SU-100 and later models? I know of the decal options wit the kit which covers Soviet examples, Syrien, DDR and a captured German type. I take it there were many more? Links to paint schemes would also help very much although I am looking on here for some.

Also: Thinking of displaying it with a camo net resting over the top, would this have been a correct use of camoflage for this type of weapon? I see that many are shown with a tree log straped to the side would this been used to weight down camo' netting or tarp?

Thanks.

Have not seen any photo myself of Russian armor with camo nets laid out on them, as for the logs, soviet armor carried them to help get the vehicles unstuck from the mud, etc.
The vehicle remained in service with the Red Army well after the war; production continued in the Soviet Union until 1947 and into the 1950s in Czechoslovakia. It was withdrawn from Soviet service in 1957 but many vehicles were transferred to reserve stocks. Some exist to this day in the Russian Army holding facilities.
Many Warsaw Pact countries also used the SU-100, as did Soviet allies such as Egypt, Angola and Cuba. The SU-100 saw service in the fighting that accompanied the 1956 Suez Crisis, in which the Egyptians used SU-100s against Israel's M4 Sherman tanks. The vehicle was also utilised in the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War. It was modified slightly to adapt it to the sandy conditions of the Middle East, thus creating the SU-100M variant. Exported SU-100s continued in service until the 1970s, and in some countries, even later. The SU-100 remains in use by the Vietnam People's Army and the Korean People's Army Ground Force despite the age of the design.

Thanks for the quick reply Thomas,

May I ask what countries would have had them as well as USSR and Czechoslovakia. Would they have been re-painted or have kept the soviet green as I am looking for a more interesting scheme.

SU-100 (SD 100) in the Egyptian army camouflage used during the Suez War in 1956. Probably all the SU-100 used by the Egyptian army was made in Czechoslovakia.

Showing my lack of armour vehicle knowlege again:

Would this be a realistic Soviet Armour scheme?

If so then would it be 1945 or later?

I am affraid that this is not true, stars have wrong proportions (too wide white borders) and errorss in russian words on both sides.. I have never seen three colours "mottlings" airbrushed on russian tanks too

As for the SU-100M if that is still where you want to head, the Arab armies who used this vehicle from the pictures I have seen in the past were overall sand, maybe Syria may have used that cool looking camo scheme I have seen on their T-55's, but am not sure if they used it on any other vehicles. And I agree with Kevin, that scheme looks like what the Chinese paints their vehicles with now.
