Hi folks,

As a fan of all things Canadian (HNIC, The Habs, Tim Horton's etc.) I am interested in building a LAV III LORIT and I've noted the number of different options out there.

I'm not a huge stickler for accuracy however I would like it to, at least, look the part.

With an eye to keeping costs in line I was considering the Trumpeter LAV III along with the Real Model LORIT upgrade set for the Trumpeter LAV kit.

My question relates to the upgrade kit as I've looked on RealModel's site and I'm curious if I would require both the LAV III upgrade and the LORIT upgrade in order to fully garner a decent LORIT replica.

I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone out there who's built a LORIT using the Trumpeter kit.

Thanks Kindly,
Dave

Dave,

If you can live with pretty good accuracy and a budget minded cost then go with the Trumpeter LAV III, and the LORIT update set....

You will also need the LAV III Update set for the Trumpeter LAV III for the blast shields and other details.

Now that will total you 72.00 Euro.

The full LORIT conversion for the Stryker kit is 99.00 Euro (currently on sale)....but you don't get crew figures and you will need a Stryker kit as a base kit.

I have both of the LAV III update sets for the Trumpeter kit....although the LORIT PE frets were missing from my set.

The sets are nice....but not perfect....

The Trumpeter LORIT upgrade set includes a bunch of resin stowage for the LAV III in addition to the PE parts for the stowage bins and add-on armour on the lower hull.

One thing that is missing and not mentioned in the LORIT update set is the new tubular spare tire rack for the front of the hull.....so, don't mount the spare tire on the ramp.

The 2008-2009 update set includes PE parts, resin wheels, printed stuff, the blast shields in PE, and resin stowage.....a very good deal. The instructions show the correction required for the rear upper hull angles.

Good luck with your LAV III!

Thanks for the info Jason !!

I somehow figured I'd need both sets.. heh.

I know the original (aka AFV Stryker) conversions have been around for some time but when I think of the cost plus the AFV Stryker kit it sort of puts me off of doing it lest I screw it up *LOL*

Thanks again!

Jason,
According to my photos in the archive, use the front mount spare only a vehicle without a winch. Trump model includes a winch. For this reason I have done to set the bracket. Preparing a small kit that includes the bottom bracket armor and spare wheel. Both can always add to the finished model. Few company puts everything into one set is not too expensive. Also, many modelers apply all legal parts of the set, as are content with what is in the kit.

Thanks Miroslav.

I don't mind shelling out for the two sets for the LAV III LORIT - like I said in my first post, I just can't see myself affording the AFV conversion kit and AFV Stryker at the same time

Plus, after looking around on the RealModel site, I see many other things there that I would enjoy *LOL*

Cheers,
Dave

David, the AFV Club Stryker is frequently part of Lucky model sales. I got mine for $18 before shipping. Just something to consider.

Thanks Graeme !!!

I've never ordered from Lucky Model before - my "usual" orders are from Hannants and/or Roll Models - it's been some time since I've tried anywhere "new" - but having looked at their prices, heck, even if the Stryker's not "on sale" it's no more than $22-$23 before shipping... and likely a bit less since our Canuck Buck is flying so high..

Cheers,
Dave

So,with the ratio of one LAV III with a winch per a Platoon of four LAV IIIs it would be much more common to see a LAV III LORIT with the front mounted spare tire.

How hard is it to remove the winch and mounts from the Trumpeter kit?

I agree sets can be expensive but I think that modellers looking to use high quality conversions sets with resin, PE, and other parts such as produced by you would be willing to have a complete and accurate conversion for the additional cost.

I totally understand your reasoning for not including the front spare tire mount. I was simply trying to inform a fellow modeller of what the conversion has to offer as well as what it is lacking.

OK, I understand. For this reason I wrote that the spare wheel frame and the bottom as a special armor set. It's one thing I would do a universal kit for my conversion kit and kit for Trump.

I'm a regular and happy Lucky client: never had a problem.

Just make sure the item in question is "in stock" and not "available".
In stock = posted next day
Available = we don't really have it but can get it eventually

Good Luck!

Hello
In my shop from Joomla is "in stock"in stock, but unfortunately I do not send the team on the second day. Available means that it is only at this time and will be completed soon.
This is the default from the manufacturer's shop. My second (old store), this set has a different way. Therefore, it is best to ask for a specific item.

Miloslav,

Which "store" should I order from if I'm in Canada? I see there's two different "looking" stores (although they're both on your site):

Thanks again Miloslav - for Credit Card (because that's what I would use to order vs PayPal) I'll go to the second site.

Another option for a LAV III LORIT is using the Black Dog LORIT set. comes with lots of stowage.

I thought I read somewhere the Blackdog set was missing the IBAK belly armor. I believe Real Models is releasing that- their website says coming in October so it looks like it might be available anytime
