I built this for the Eastern Armor Campaign and would like to know what you guys think about it. It is Zvezda's 1/35 T-72A.

I have since repainted the figure the appropriate dark brown(I used Testor's rubber). The fuel lines are made of solder and styrene rod.

Hi,
it looks like you omitted the road wheels hub covers.
Maybe you could give it a wash to enhance the recesses. You didn't choose the easiest T-72 on the market to start with Modern Russian armor but the result is neat.

Thanks for pointing the wheel cover omission. I'll get right on that. Shouldn't be too dificult to fix.

Matt-- I like it. What brand and colors did you use on the figure?
Well done

As pictured: I used Tamiya flate earth, buff(to highlite folds), dark grey and flesh; Testor's light tan on the lips, white for flesh basecoat; watercolors for shaded areas on the face.
Like I said, I went back and used Testor's rubber for the clothing. I'll be posting new photos as soon as I attache the wheel hubs.

Here are the pics with the wheel hubs and repainted commander.

I had to take these photos inside. The lighting added a yellow cast.
Thanks for all the kind comments.

Matt- this is a nice build, great stuff.
I agree with Olivier though, about the wash- I reckon a dark wash into the panel lines and recesses would make some of the detail stand out that bit more.

How was this kit to put together and where is the figure from?

The figure came with the kit. When I got the kit, there were several pieces that had broke and some serious warping of the barrel. I used Squadron white putty and a lot of glue to hold the barrel together while I straightened it. The smoke launcher slots were too big. I fille these with putty and sanded smooth. The headlight guards were broken, so I carefully glued the legs back on. The dust skirts didn't want to fit. I fixed with ample glue and clamps. I waited till the end to assemble the tracks. These were a nightmare. I had to reposition the running gear, as it sat too close to the tank and the tracks would only be half way on the sprocket. Speaking of the sprocket, it was twice as wide as it should be. I pulled them off and cut about 1/4" away from the inside. The tracks didn't have enough room between the running gear and the sponsoons. I left them off. Depsite the problems, I really enjoyed this kit. My KV-1 is no longer the largest tank I've built. I am going to give it a dark wash today. I'm considering sending some photos to FSM's readers pics. Depending on how it comes out after the wash, I may enter it into the monthly contest here on Armorama.

well done indeed Matt congrats

I agree with Olivier about the pin wash to engraved the recesses, but anyway you did a clean stunning build in my humble opinion

Me too I'd like to know about the kit assembly. I've a Revell (Zvezda DML) t72B with Kontact ERA active armours in my stash. At a first glance it doesn't seem to have good fits

finished shading all of the recesses and adding a little pen wash. I'm no good at pin washes. Although, I only have water colors to do them. May invest in some oils next week. I'm calling this one done, until I get a kmt-5 mine roller for it (hint hint $$$)and decide whether or not to buy some oils. I'll be posting photos tomorrow.

Allright. Here are the most recent photos. I need to dull coat it and pick up some oils for a pin wash.

Also, I intend to add a mine roller to it.

very nice build, i'm building the B model from Italeri at the moment, and I don't wanne buy the minarm conv, I think this one makes my point , it looks like a T72, and that's all I need to see.

I would also have recommended the dark wash, followed witrh a drybrushing with base +beige/sand added

greetz!

I'll do the wash tomorrow. This one has me run out of bottles for my ab. I am going to purchase some oil paints to do a pinwash. The hardest part is going to be painting the mine plow to match the overall color of the tank. But, I won't have to worry about that for a few weeks. I won't be posting any more photos until I have done the pin wash. This will be my first attempt at one, but I have a Revell Sherman to practice on.

I finished the highlights today. I plan on adding one more coat of thinned rubber to blend everything. But I'm overhaulling my ab, so that will be a tomorrow project.
