Hi!
I recently read the March 2011 Military Modelcraft Int. Magazine which features a build of a really nice Pz IV which has been captured by the russians. Here´s a link to the build: PzIV
After reading the article I got an idea that it would be cool to build a german Brummbär painted in a similiar fashion. I guess it´s possible that the russians managed to capture some Brummbärs after the battle of Kursk and put them against their former owners, but I have not been able to find any info or photo that supports this theory.
So my question to you guys are: Do you know if the Russians managed to capture and use a Brummbär?

Hi Jasper
I've already known the article which you posted because it has been translated on an itaian modeller magazine
I liked it a lot
Regarding the (hypothetical) Russian Brummbär, I looked at my favorite russian sites and apparently, there are no photographic evidences of it
In my very humble opinion, it seems to me quite unlikely that Russian captured the Brummbär. It was an odd tanks, slow and quite complex to use.
Best for them to capture the most useful and effective german tanks, such as Panther and Pz IV. This is just my opinion, anyway

I hope those will be useful for you
Cheers

Thanks Mauro! A lot of really nice links! I really like the Hummel and Jagdpanzer IV. They look really nice in russian colors
Regarding the Brummbär your probably right. There wasn´t that many built and it did have some mechanical problems because of the heavy gun. I guess I knew from the start that there was a slim chance that there were any russian Brummbärs, but I think it would make an interesting model so I figured it was better ask than to discard the idea directly
However I have found out that there is a Brummbär in the Russian museum Kubinka, so it seems that the Russians at least managed to capture one. However that doesn´t mean that they actually used it, but at least it seems that there is a small chance that they did.
Does anyone here know the story behind this specific tank? http://en.rian.ru/photolents/20100831/160408773_13.html

I don't know much about Kursk or even Brumbars for that matter, but the Brumbars were not a common tank and I would imagine the captured ones would be soon considered useless for the lack of resupply ammunition. They would be better off to use it as a troop mover or a tow for a gun than to sustain a long battle.

The Brummbar in Kubinka is a very early mod of this vehicle, so most likely it was captured during Kursk battle.
But as far as I know there is no documented use of them in Red Army.
