I'm finally at the painting stage on my 1/35 Miniart 57mm ZIS-2 gun after about a year of having finished construction and I'm having a hard time determining if the rods that attach to the right trail arm are supposed to be painted in some sort of wood color or whether they should be the same green metal color of the arm. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about (pic of my model):

Are these cleaning rods of some sort? Are they aiming stakes? I have no clue.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Rob

Hey, Rob

Actually, both. One of them was "officially" cleaning rod, and another one was a stake. But for the cleaning of a barrel they would be connected together in one.
Here is a scan of a manual:

How they were painted originally I have no idea. But I am sure they were not made out of wood.

Hope that helps.

Excellent!!! Thanks, Alex! Just what I needed. Glad I don't have to paint them wood before sealing my base coat.
