Been eyeing the RM photoetched slat to go with my PSM Leo Barracuda conversion, and I note there are two sets, the full set and a "short" set...the full set seems to match photos in the Tankograd 2A6MCAN book, but what is the history and time line for the short set?

The original side hull slat was modified in Afghanistan and shortened when the Barracuda was fitted. This occurred over a short period of time on all tanks.

There were too many damaged full slat sections due to the ground clearance.

The rear and turret remain the same. I provided Real Model with the info on the modifications....so trust me for what it is worth for accuracy.

So.....

Full slat.....no Barracuda fitted

Modified shorter hull slat....Barracuda fitted

Thanks jason, that's just what I needed to know. BTW, any idea when the RM 26AMCAN reference book will be out?

Here is new short Armor Slat for CDN Leo 2A6M.

About Leo 2 Book.
I need at least 200 pieces of pre-ordered. Then you can put a book into print. Given that the book generally worse than the models sold, not to invest in them without thinking.

Sorry

This is not correct, as there was full slat with cudda fitted the cut down came later on.

Milo: I'll be putting in a slat order and detail set order when I get home from school; I'll PM you about pre-ordering a book too.

Anthony: thanks for the additional info; thinking about doing the short slat for the PSM Barracuda conversion, and then continue with the full slat for the non-Barracuda version I have on the back burner.

If you need help drop me a PM. I have lots of first hand knowledge and would be more than happy to help you out.

Once the 4 new Leo 2 conversions from RealModels show up, reviews to follow ASAP.

Leopard Techie in the back pocket.

Anthony

* Once the new book comes out from RealModels on theCanuck Leo 2A6M with the long and short slat, the photos will be published that will explain everything in good order.

Thanks for the clarification. You are correct that the full slat was used with the Barracuda but that didn't last very long.

That's why I posted...."This occurred over a short period of time on all tanks."

'B' Squadron SHQ trialed the shortened slat and then the other Troops followed.

So to get even more detailed.....

Full slat.....1. No electronics boxes, no rifle box fitted, and no Barracuda fitted.
2. Electronics boxes fitted and rifle box fitted and no Barracuda fitted
3. Electronics boxes fitted and rifle box fitted and Barracuda fitted.

Modified shorter hull slat....Barracuda fitted with all other add-ons mentioned above.

You would be better off making the slat armour from evergreen plastic, the photoetch would be too thin scale wise.

cheers

I agree. Slat Armor 1/16 would be very expensive to produce.
