I believe the 62M was quite widely used in both Chechen wars and there may have even been some in deployed in Dagestan though I'm not sure about that.

Was there also not one or two with bar armor pictured in Georgia and South Ossetia in 2008?

I have the Trumpeter 1962 T-62... could this kit be used with this conversion, or are there major differences between this kit and the 1972 model.. besides the Dushka on the turret?

As far as I know T-62 m variant was based on 1972 model, so it has a different engine deck and different track links (which are the same of T-72)
Furthermore t-62m lower hull had extra armours mounted on and a second shock absorber arm mounted near the third front wheel

Actually Mauro answer this with an YES in the first picture. This vehicle have the m1962 engine deck. I have another pic as well that I can send if you PM me your email.

As usual it seem like not all vehicles got the same/all upgrades.

Some T-62 's just got the add on armour but lacks the laser range finder an other stuff, others just have the side skirts. Some with all other upgrades have the thermal sleeve on the barrel, some dosen't. The change to RMSH tracks was not a specific M upgrade as far as I know. This was done to all versions disregarding other updates.

I agree that m1972 seem to be the most frequent version but there are quite a few m1967 running as well. The third picture from below (Ossetia) is imho an 1967 (round loaders hatch).

Well turrets and hull were interchangeable beetwen the different versions so probably during the wars they were also field modifictations This fact although is interesting adds confusion. I n my humble opinion the best way to depict a tank is, as much as is possible, depicting a specific exemplar . It was easier when I used to do aircraft

Hisham those withe "s" were added before with spray cans. There are a lot of exemples of afghan tanks painted in a similar way. I remember that Bison decal produced a sheet with quite a lot of t-55 with those kind of field camo schemes.
It would be a great challenge reproduce that schemes in 35 scale

Not trying to split hairs here but I wouldn't call it a field mod as one have to swap the whole turret, althought I assume they should be interchangeable. Who knows when it happend. In a workshop in Afghanistan or back in Russia during some refurbishing program?

Joking aside i think you're right. There are a lot of things about tank modifications which is almost impossible to know. In my opinion we have to trust mostly in reference pics

At first glance the blue/yellow over dark green camo seems out of place. Once I saw where these were operating it makes perfect sense. The colors blend perfectly with the terrain if the mountains are behind.

This is a bit outside Kabul.

Stranger too, is that apart from the altitude above sea level, this is very similar to where I live now in Southern Nevada.

The Soviet's had a tank repair depot in the city of Charikar Afghanistan, not too far from Bagram. There is currently a T62 turret on a pedestal there as a monument that I have to assume was put there by the Soviets as the Afghan's sure wouldn't put it there... the remains of the barracks, 80's style basketball court, maintenance sheds etc. are still there. Pictures to follow.

It seems to me that actually there are two turrets in the monument. Other than the T-62 one, there's another one which could be a BTR-BMP-BDM turret

I am also doing the t-62 an this thread has got me thinking about doing another one an adding the legend update which looks amazing an would look even better on a tank transport like the soviet maz 537 that I seen in one of the photos. An that extra reference that people added help me also.

Also have in mind, that T-62 both m62 and m72, in all variations, and with all the extra goodies were stationed in DDR.
The difference, is that they were painted only in Russian Green, in an very typical way (no different color patches and no significant ware), bearing the CA markings used by the Soviet forces in Europe.
No photo available yet, but I will post couple, when I get back home...
Many of you might find it "boring" with all that green, but It's interesting in a twisted way...

Mauro, what is the tank/crane combo , on one of the pictures, does it have a name, or is it a field conversion of some sort
and on what chassis is it put T55,62,64,72?

very tempting stuff, guess the wallet is going to bleed , with all these nice kits commin' out!

Yes, there are two turrets, there were BRDM/BTR turrets all over the place in that city.
