Hej Hej,

I managed to finally finish my ongoing project with building a Tatra 813 pulling a trailer with a heavy engineer vehicle... it took me 4,5 years (with many breaks in between), since it's still a hobby and I got a job that has nothing to do with modelling

Alright, I won't talk too much about it, since the single models are already well introduced here in the forum with seperate build logs. Only one thing to the base: tried to find one that suits, but it's impossible in that size so I decided to build my own. Got a piece of wood, laquered and sealed it.

The concrete-plates are made from rigid foam plates (cut to size and Tamiya-texture-paint applied). The gutter is from the spare parts box, the rest was just painting and weathering

I only want to say, that I learned a lot in the process, and this is my first project at all, so I know, it's still a way to go to be perfect, so I'm open to comments and critiques!

Here are the pics now (they are many, be aware )

That is one kick ass piece guni-kid- love the paint-work and the details like the chains and the tools in the box. Fantastic work. What kits did you use?

Love it ! looks really good, especially for a first project. I noticed you even crossed the safety chains ( from the truck to the trailer ) and on the loaded bat. Don't know if that was intentional ? it was good detail though. In real life chains are crossed to prevent binding when going around turns. Excellent work I enjoyed that you posted many pictures as well.

Oh My God.
This is possibly my favourite 'Diorama' ever. The detail and painting is out standing, its flawless. How the heck did you do it!
P.S.
What manufacurer makes the Tatra and Bat-M or are they scrach-built? Was it MMK or another resin manufacturer?

P.P.S.
What green did you use for the Bat-M and Tatra, was it a custom mix or a ready made, shop bought colour?

Hej guys,

thanks for the nice comments, I'm happy you like it.

Concerning the questions here are some numbers and additional information:

- estimated building time: 700-750 hours of work (as I said before these were stretched over 4,5 years in total)

- length (metric): ca. 65cm; width ca. 15cm (BAT-M as the widest model); heigth ca. 20-22cm

- expenses (only models and AM products used, no material like paints, brushes and tools): ca. 600,00 Euro in total

- weight: I have to weigh the hole thing myself but it's quite heavy (all resin kits)

The kits I used are:

- BAT-M from Panzershop (good quality, some changes and additions necessary to get a proper NVA-version); featured here on ARMORAMA in 2007:

https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/1857

- Tatra 813 KOLOS from MMK (bad quality, had a lot of parts to replace and made some major additions and changes, was the most frustrating and time consuming build); build log here on ARMORAMA:

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/140946&page=1

- Trailer P-50 from MMK (quality was okay, but still not perfect); build log here on ARMORAMA:

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/109795&page=1

Some AM-products I used are: beacons from Accurate Armor, toolbox and figures from Tamiya, tools, barrels, boxes and other stuff from PlusModel, Italeri and Royal Model, many parts from the spare parts box. But most of the changes and additions on the models I made by plastic sheets and evergreens, copper-wire and all the other scratchbuild material you might be familiar with.

As for the paints: I used Tamiya Field Grey "XF 65" as base color (airbrushed of course); then I applied some Tamiya Black Green "XF27" at all the edges and corners. Afterwards I blended everything with a very light coat of both colors mixed together (with a slightly higher ratio of "XF65"). Then all the models received an overall washing with a black wash... thats mostly it. Of course there was done some more weathering, dry brushing and stuff, but as for the basic color scheme thats it.

And one last thing concerning the security chains: yeah, it was on purpose that I crossed them, since I have seen it like that in some of my reference pictures But without these pictures I probably would've done it wrong...

So eventually I have to thank you again for your interest and nice words!

Marian,
this is truly a GREAT dio in all the meanings of the word

If I may add a comment, you could remove one link on the BAT-M tracks. There is too much sagging in my opinion.

Hi Marian. One of the most impressive display pieces I have seen in some time. Really an awesome model. Great attention to detail throughout ... which is hard to do considering the work and time spent on this. Personally I wish you had used a different green for the BAT-M ... to show an older or more weathered model ... just to make some difference between the tractor/trailer set-up. Doesn´t take away though from a great model.

Very nice work...well worth the time it took you to finish. I have a similar project I am working on...I hope to get it done at the 4 1/2 mark if possible!

Your work on the Tatra in particular is very impressive...I know what a challenge it was.

I have to thank you all again for your nice comments on it, it's much appreciated

@Olivier: I thaught so too... but then something must be wrong with the overall scale(either the tracks or the overall dimensions of the BAT), since I counted the links and used exactly as much as you can find on the real thing... but for a better look on the model I will think about it!

@Jacques: So I'm looking forward to seeing your project finished! And the Tatra... to be honest it was a pain, and I'm not sure if I ever will do one again (shouldn't be a problem, stash's full with many things not being a Tatra )

@Frank: I guess now it's too late for repainting, but I'll keep that in mind for later projects. I intentionally meant to show the BAT-M quite new but the Tatra and Trailer a bit more worn... still have to use a lighter color then I guess... next time

As for the colours its been common practice in the Eastern block to paint the vehicles from time to time with fuel or petrol to keep the colours "shiny". It was done mostly by the crew before events such as field exercises and parades. Also every unit had reserve vehicles which could not be brought out of storage under any circumstances other than war, so You could have 10 years old vehicle in shiny new condition with less than 50 miles on the tacho. So you could have hevicles in any colour imaginative.
