Being a junior, a new BMP-1 has never been released in my time. I have done some research and found Trumpeter make a Chinese copy, HobbyCraft do an Iraq one, ESCi, Zvezda, AMT, Dragon and Italeri all used to make one. However its seems that they are all OOP and old. In terms of accuracy and buildability which is the best. Is the HobbyCrft BMP-1 worth buying. I'm not really bothered about how accurate the detail is, my main concern is how much effort is required to build it into a good kit.
Cheers

Nope. It's an old motorized kit with screws holding the wheels on with the head of the screws exposed.

Its awful!

The detail is soft and toy like in many places, many details are missing or simply totally incorrect (very obvious things such as missing wheel hubs!) Its a pain to put together as well. I'd say avoid it and see if you can get the Esci kit.

Run away. Run far away. I bought this kit a couple of years ago. The pieces don't fit. The accurracy can be called into question. I broke one of the drive sprockets almost imediately. It may be better to do some heavy editing and come out with a knocked out vehicle.

I think Hobbycraft is a very good kit...to obtain lots of streched sprue

I think you should try to get an old ESCI kit on ebay . Unfortunately although is more or less 20 years old, is still the best BMP-1 kit

Otherwise (as me) you should wait and pray that Trumpeter will decide to produce a decent new tool

Cheers

I STILL have my kit assembled, sitting on the shelf. Yeah, I stuck with it and finished it and just put a base coat on it and left it alone. It's turned so no one can see the Philips head screws holding the wheels on.

I was hoping to get a quality BMP kit to replace it (since it's one of my favorite Soviet vehicles and my favorite IFV too ... along with the M113) but never got around to it.
