Hello everybody, I am new to forum and also a novice in modelling. I currently study in Taipei, Taiwan. I have several kits of Soviet tank and i want to complete the collection of modern former-Warsaw Pact tanks. I am looking for PT-91 and M84( or M84AS, M95) and TR85 conversion kit in Taipei. Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you very much.

Of all three tanks, I only know of a conversion kit for the M-84 from Kirin. (OOP)
You might try Ebay.

AFAIK there is no PT-91 1/35 conversion available.

Hope that helps...

ModelKrak in Poland had a 1/35 conversion set many years ago for the PT-91 but I believe it has been unavailable for a long time.

As Matt wrote ModelKrak's PT-91 is out of production. Last time I saw this conversion in model store in mid 90's. But there is a other option- AEF. This company released a conversion for Tamiya kit in 1/35. AEF is out of businees but their products are still avaiable in different e-stores like www.hobbyeasy.com

Hope this helps

The Modelkrak conversion was issued for the Tamiya kit. It was not accurate in some areas and required a bit of work. However it was a very good base to start from.
AEF might work again according to posts I saw on several forums. I don't know the conversion itself so I won't make any comment.
Here is my Modelkrak rendition of the PT-91

Tony Engelhart from AEF received accurate plans of production version of PT-91. So he had a chance to build a good conversion set. But I had no chance to check it- he stopped answering my mails many months ago

I saw PT-91 Model Modelkrak 1/35 CONVERSION on eBay some time ago.

By the way what do you think about that set (quality & true) Michal?

AEF set is not good I think.

All the best!

I had no opportunity to check Modelkrak's conversion. Instead of that I post several PT-91 photos which will help to compare with Olivier's model. My first impression it looks like pre- production version showed during military fairs in Kielce:

This is a production version:

Check the difference in layout of ERA block on the turret and sights.

OK so, four rows of ERAWA blocks on the side skirts, it is the pre production version.
http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu225/popo5/Pt-91/PT-91_Twardy_NTW_5_93_1.jpg
And this is the production version.
http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu225/popo5/Pt-91/PICT89_-_PT91_Twardy.jpg
But what means the different arrangement of ERAWA blocks on the turret?
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/7351/twardy1qf5.jpg
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9333/twardy2xb6.jpg
Early and late versions?

And it is the comparsion photos of sets.
As I sad I think MODELKRAK set is better than AEF.

AEF

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/688
MODELKRAK
But both of these sets require great level of improvements.
And now we don't have a 1/35 PT-91 kit factory produced.

...some good images of Twardy wich I found
https://www.fotosik.pl/u/fahr/zdjecia/23
https://btvt.narod.ru/5/pt91/pt91.htm
And some examples of MODELKRAK assembly.

This is the reason of different arrangement. ERAWA blocks were mounted that way:

ERA block in later tanks are mounted to the frame and than to the pins from the turret.

Hope this helps,

Great pics Michal; thanks for sharing.
Taras, when looking at the picture of the AEF turret I was stunned to see how much the gun mantlet is angled. I should not be an easy fix.

Thanks Michal!
I have photos of late PT-91 w/o ERAWA. But early mount is new to me. Maybe you have images of early ERAWA mount on the front armor?

Yes Olivier,
AEF is only for experience! modellers. I remember my war with their T-55AMV (Soviet Naval Infantry) set.
...but BRM-1 was very good in comparsion with drawing from Nowa Technika Wojskowa magazine.

I did small research in my NTW magazines. What I found- this is one of the earliest versions of PT-91

I found only one photo showing ERAWA blocks mounted to the hull

And there is a photo of scale drawings of PT-91 hull. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner

Hi Nguyen,

I did the AEF conversion while watching the Tour De France in 2011. I have a few issues with the kit but it is the only one on the market. The first issue and the main problem is the turret shape; it is more rounded on the sides where I reckon it should be more of a wedge and as a result crowds everything. The track guards are only half the length; the laser warning mounts and devices are average; the frontal armour blocks, average all of which I rebuild but I had the kit as a guide which really helped. One major thing you need to consider is the track, the early Polish vehicles use the old T-72 track and the latter ones (which are also used by Malaysia) use a rubber track (I use the Broncos ZTZ-99 track set but this requires modifying the drive sprocket from a14 teeth to 12. Lots of trial and error and a protractor is highly recommended.

In short and despite the short comings I really enjoyed build.

I would build another but this time from a base kit using JS-MODELS turret (available from http://www.kuivalainen.biz/ps/product.php?id_product=21 or http://www.kuivalainen.biz/ps/ and search T-72). This is a great turret I picked one up a couple of years ago for a Finnish T-72. The rest of the bits I would build from scratch (but I have the kit as a reference which really helps).

Also here are a couple of links to build logs.

...Yes I saw it Michal, in Maly Modelarz. It is the late mounts.

I found early mounts on btvt.narod.ru gallery
they are same like on the turret.

By the way may be in your NTW archive are some publications about T-55AM Merida?

David
I would suggest another turrets
from miniarm T-72A
and from blast Models T-72M.

I did small research and I found nothing

On the other hand- I checked my Medida photos. As I remember right you're interested in engine deck photos.

YYYESS!
Thanks a million Michal! This is what I need.
I can clearly see the air filter cover. It is T-54 type.
It turns out that the Poles do not really changed it to a new, on the Soviet model, even on T-55AM.

And there are some interesting details. Seem to have been early and late types of covers. In your photo clearly shows the contour seals. Perhaps it was only on later models.

...with regard to PT-91 late tracks. Which will be truely..from T-80/90 or others?

Thanks for the pics Michal. It will not be an easy job to convert RMSh tracks to these new type.
