Hi Paul,

The raised sandbag area with the sentry will be a gas look out point.

Hi Garth,

It will take a fair bit more work just to get the ground cover looking real, but it's moving along slowly.

Cheers

Alan: I'm liking this more and more. Great work. My only comment is that if I were the lone sentry, I'd want a few more sandbags Just saying...

Hi Zon,

Thanks. Yes, there is a bit of a dip there leaving it rather exposed. I haven't decided yet to lift it with earth, sandbags or tin. There will be a hanging empty shell case either on a post or from a small roofed structure.

I am tempted to lift the figure up more as it stands in the iconic pose of the WW1 Tommy.

Cheers

Hi folks,

I tried some of the Accurate Armour Barbed Wire. This is quite good for short lengths between the pickets, but not if you need coils of wire.

Hi Alan,

Great looking dio you have there!

Just spent a day at the Somme last week, and it feels like I'm back there. :-)

Looks really great!

Congrats!

Hi Alan,
Just found this and have been looking at your excellent work. I have been having a search to try and I.D the "spare" part of your mortar. I think it shows in the photos of the Mortars in Miniature example, and is actually a type of "spigot" under the base of the barrel that captures the base and allows it to elevate and depress, if that makes sense. Keep up the great work. Paul

Hi Alan,
Looking good.
A questions : do you paint or airbrush your groundwork? I like the effect you have achieved.
Regards,
Garth

Hi Gerard,

Thanks for dropping in and the thoughts.

Hi Steve,

Thanks also. There is great scope for dio building in this period, lots of useful reference pictures around.

Hi Paul,

I'm going down to Duxford in a week or so, so I will check out the example there and hopefully bring back some half decent pics although that particular hall isn't the best for photographs. On the example in M in M he's added a small hand wheel, which looks right to me. I'll see when I get to duxford.

Hi Garth,

I hand paint everything I build, just experimenting with some wet mud at the bottom of the trench.

Thanks to all for dropping in and the comments.

This is just with soem Klear added along the bottom of the trenches.

There is a lot more wire and debris to get added.

Hi folks,

I has order up some barbed wire from Fields of Glory. The Accurate Armour wire is good for short lengths but I also needed something I could coil. It just arrived so here's a sample.

It comes in 2 meter lengths.

Great job on this dio. I'm really impressed! how many figures are you planning to use? I've counted 10 finished at least. Can you take a picture with all figures - even not ready - on diorama?

Hi Wapel,

Many thanks for dropping in. At the moment I have 16 figures pretty much completed for the dio. These 2 pictures show them in draft placement.

There are 10 here

There are six here:

I have possible conversions for another 6 to 8 from these two sets:

This is a slightly better pic of the first of the wire.

Hi folks,

More workers under construction. At this point I have just added a pair of ammo boots.

Hi Garth,

Thanks, might be just a bit thick for 1/35 scale but is off set by the AA stuff.

Bit more work on the Log carrying Tommy.

New boots, puttees and altered uniform.

Cheers

Al

Hi Jeremy,

A tunnel needs workers lol, lol. The next one under construction is the barrow boy, I've added some ammo boots which are pinned on and then any gaps filled in. Also started to try and make some disgarded jackets for the mortar pit and elsewhere. This should be fun!

Cheers
