Hi,
this is my new Russian tank. The tank is a Tamiya T-55A in 1:35. Tracks from Friul and a Gun Barrel from RB model. Painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathered with pigments from MIG.

Yes Gary....Friul tracks cost a fortune ...but they are the best ones and almost irreplaceable for some subjects

Really well done Michael! Your paint job is incredibly good, very close to the actual painting. What Tamiya colors did you use exactly? Did you apply some filters?

congrats indeed

Hi Michael,
I think the tank T-55 is one of the subjects most made in the world, because it's the connecting link between the tanks of World War II and those of our era.
In my opinion it is the first real modern tank.
It is really a nice tank, and me and my friends love it much.
I invite you to see the models of T-55 that I and my group of friends we have built and we have shown in our website:
http://www.masterminiatures.it/gal/t55-enigma.php
http://www.masterminiatures.it/gal/t55-iraqui-2.php

http://www.masterminiatures.it/gal/t55-am.php
http://www.masterminiatures.it/gal/1-72-puma-4x4.php
If we will build others of these - and that's for sure because everyone of us wants to have at least one in his showcase - we will propose them to be submitted to the your critics or your appreciations.
Greetings

I agree with that..
Good looking model by the way, I like it.. Maybe a bit more weathering and/or chipping on the hull and turret would be nice...

Very good model Michael , A bit clean for my taste but I suppose some T-55s didn't see a lot of in action service and were kept in good repair

@Gianfranco- great collection of T-55s and other models in your site Gallery- you should show more of them here on Armorama too

Hi Cagkan,
I totally agree with you. For me the T-55 tank was the first tank designed with a very modern criteria.
Is this that has made his success (although its development has been very laborious) and that it has laid the foundations for the development of almost all Soviet tanks so far.
I also agree with you on the lack of aging of this model.
As a former commander for 11 years of the tank units, I can assure you that only in case of parades and great celebrations the tanks were thoroughly cleaned and repainted; in any other case they were full of scratches, blows, signs and paint chips.
That's why at me and my friends like to paint our models in the "operating theater", more or less aged and worn but always "operational", as you can see from the links I posted. For us, this is the mean to express the true "essence of the tank soul" ...
However, to admire sometimes a tank "clean" is always nice ...

Hi Gianfranco,

I like your approach to the subject; "essence of the tank soul", like a motto ..

I'm a die hard fan of realism on the models but this T-55A is very well finished and painted, a very good example in my humble opinion...

Hi Cagkan, I agree 100% with you.
Even I have written that, sometimes, it's nice to see a model "clean".
I also agree with you that this model is really well done and well painted.
Just beautiful!

Great models there!

I agree with you. T-55 could be considered as the first tank of the modern age. It was the most produced tank ever and in spite of its oldness, it's still employed by lots of armies all over the world nowadays.
Furthermore if you ask to someone to draw quickly a tank on a piece of paper, he'll probably sketches something which looks like a T-55
So we can say that the T-55 shape represents the "essence of a tank"

I think it would be really great to make a "T-54/55 family" campaign here on the site. There would be lots of exemplars that could be depicted

cheers and many thanks for the links
