Alan, Greg,
Thanks for the comments.
There's a lot of discussion on the caunter scheme, I used the lifecolor set here, I do wonder if it's historically correct...
I feel like I'm missing some blue...
Dave

With or without the blue, brilliant bit of talent! I don't strive for accurracy. I started down that road and realized I don't have what it takes to be a rivet counter. Build for fun.

Thanks Matt!
I'm absolutely no rivet counter either, but I do like to build my armoir historically correct. In which I. Mean, decals, colors, schemes and so on...
Matilda's new to me, I'm normally building stuff from Normandy till Berlin.

I know the Stuart Honey had blue on it, but I'm not sure if that carried over to the Matilda. For instance, the British Shermans didn't display any blues.

For the lines, I just used Tamiya tape. Wasn't too difficult.

Dave-- follow up question. Did you apply the base coat, then tape, paint the stripes? I am trying to figure out how you achieved the stripe effect given the turret smoke discharges and the engine vents on the hull
Thanks

Hello DJ,
Yes, I first painted the hull in Portland stone and then put on tamiya tape for the silver grey.
After that was dry, again tamiya tape for the slate grey. Then one last time for the middle part of Portland stone on the hull.
The smoke dischargers aren't a problem, since they are only slate grey. The hull vents are a bit more difficult since you can't get the tamiya tape to stick in the recesses, so it was a matter of keeping your airbrush in a steep angle.
If you have any more questions, shoot! :-)

Dave-- I certainly appreciate your feedback. Your work is very well done. I am encouraged to make the Matilda. Right now, I am finishing up a T-34/85 with bed spring armor. The track took the most time for me. I am still tryng to make Magic Track work for me. Gary Brooks offered some very helpful hints which speeded the completion. While I am not ready to post photos of it, I hope to be more successful with my next project...
thanks again

That's because the color blue was a mistake to begin with. Nowhere in SCC color charts will you find a blue such as depicted on the Stuart. There is a black color that has a blue tint in the sun, and was used in the desert.
That said LRDG and SAS units had a lot of leeway in painting their vehicles. Truth be told the original "desert pink" was simply red primer mixed with white.

Thanks for the info Wayne.
Chris, well, I'm doing the 4 afv's at once, and I've been busy with them since last September, so I wouldn't call that so busy. :-)
I was in a build mode at the time, so I just build and build.... Now I feel, I really should finish them till the bitter end. :-)
So, did some more work on the JS II, added the decals to the LVT and a wash and the tracks to the Tiger. I've a firefly project in my head, but I first have to finish this bunch.

Hello guys,
Did some more work on the Matilda tonight. Mainly adding the tracks and some chipping.
Since this is a desert vehicle I chipped it quite intense, but I hope that a filter will tone it down a bit.
I'm not to happy about the tracks, don't really know how to handle desert tracks. I assume they wouldn't be rusty, or muddy... ;-) so, what else, just bare steel?
Looking forward to your comments!
Thanks for looking.

She looks like a well worn veteran. Steel tracks in the desert look like, well, steel. There might be some surface rust form overnight but once you roll it polishes right off.
When starting fresh Model Master "Jet Exhaust" is a good base color with some light gunmetal or steel drybrushing. With where you are soime steel drybrushed on the tracks will work well.

Well Dave, I think if it weren't for the huge filter in the background I'd say it looks like the real thing. I like your wash ... what did you use?
And how is the Lifecolor paint to use? Easy to clean up and what do you use to mix it with? Better than Tamiya?
I'm taking notes as to "What to Use" when I fire up my new painting area.
Thanks! I really like the Matilda!

Hello Jeff!
For the wash I used AK Interactive wash for DAK vechicles.
The life color paints spray perfectly, I do thin them with the life color thinner, in my experience this works better then just using distilled water.
I spray tamiya, life color, vallejo... And they all work fine in my opinion. They do all have their own way of working, but once you get the hang of it, they all work perfectly with their pros and cons.
The tamiya paints need a bit less coats then the life color paints, but the life color paints dry very flat and smooth... I like them all actually. :-)
For cleaning I use distilled water, and a bit of Medea airbrush cleaner, never had any problems with my Harder & Steenbeck Infinity airbrush.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks again for looking.

Gary, I'm not building them, just painting and weathering, so it's not so difficult to many a few of them at once. It's just more efficient. :-) while one is drying you can work a bit on another one. :-)
Also, I get bored real easily, so a bit of variation goes a long way. :-)
Anyway, did some streaking on the Matilda. Just one panel, since it was the first time I did this. I used the AK streaking grime for DAK vechicles. I think it went fairly well...
Looking at the picture now, I think it went really well! :-) the AK products are a bliss. They make creating nice effects very easy.
