Does anybody have information on whether Trumpeter's T-62 BDD was deployed in Afghanistan? I have checked a few sites, but they list it as a T-72M or other variation with the BDD being a modification.

T-62 BDD - it's not a real oficial modification of the tank, it's another fantasy of Trumpeter.
Most of the russian modellers and experts think, that the designation T-62BDD decrypted as (Battle Dynamic Defense), but it's not real name, so it's called in the West, but not for the Soviet Union.
They mean variant with additional armor, T-62MV(Т-62 МВ in russian), http://btvt.narod.ru/5/t62m_mv/t62m_mv.htm
But made a mistake. So they made one of the variants of T-62M.
In fact, in the Soviet Army was two tanks under the designation T-62M: one with the Afghan bodywork, "eyebrows" and the other - with CUW "Sheksna" and engine B-46-5M.

In Afghanistan, the T-72 tanks were not. There was nothing newer T-62 and its various versions.

Olegas is correct, the BDD is a designation given by NATO when we first saw the tank. Much the same way when Tamiya released a T-62A, misconception by NATO when the DSKH aamg mount was installed on the turret. NATO had a bad habit of mislabeling Russian vehicles since we did not fully understand how they were designated due to the iron curtain.
Yes Trumpeter’s kit will work for Afghanistan, but in reality the kit is a T-62M1 (Ob'yekt 166M1) it is not fitted with the upgraded gunner’s sight which would allow the tank to fire ATGM.
If you need any, I have tones of photos on Russian T-62M’s in astan I can send you. Overall you can use the kit as is for an Russian afghan version.
