Dear Friends,
I am wondering about buying this kit so I would be happy to have some opinions on it. Is this a real configuration or a fake one?
Were any of the older kits errors corrected (I have the 1962 model)? I have heard that maybe the engine deck angle...
Thanks a lot,
Adam

Adam,
I received this kit in the mail last week.
Aside from some sprue shots on hobby search: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10176867
and a preview on modeling madness I have not seen much info on this kit.
My knowledge of T-62 tanks is about as deep as the kit's cardboard box. So I would also be curious if this kit is a Trumpeter day dream or real.

From what I have heard, this is a dream. However, it does represent a possible tank deployed in Afghanistan. Specifically a T-62M with a BDD armor mod.

Yes trumpeter's kit is a real tank, it's should be labeled as a T-62M. The BDD was a designation given by NATO when the tank showed up with the new armour package.
Aside from that, the kit is the same as their past model 62/72 kits with the addiational parts for the armour package and side skirts. So no real changes have been made with the engine deck issues. Still a gret kit when compaired to the price of the mig and legend updates.
Also a side note, the armour package is universal, meaning you could add the parts to a model 62 kit. Or take the model 62 turret and add it to th model 72 hull to make a model 67. Their is also many sub variations within each series that could be made.
Hope that helps some.

Just to make sure we get this straight:
T-62 m62 - initial T-62 with NO AAMG
T-62 m67 - Modified with new engine deck. NO AAMG
T-62 M72 - Same engine deck as m67 but Modified turret with new gunners hatch AND AAMG
All of these could have BDD armor package added to them.
In 1975 there was a rework of the T-62 series to incorporate, among other things, the KTD-2 Laser Range Finder system. Otherwise they stayed the same, and no AAMG were ever retro-fitted. To designate the "new" T-62 setups, they went with T-62 m62/75, T-62 m67/75, and (hold on to your seats) T-62 m72/75. The BDD package could also be applied to these as well.
There never was a "real" T-62A and the T-62M is more a NATO moniker than a Soviet one...basically because there were three seperate T-62 "types" in service at the same time and they were not all uniform, even after rework/rebuild.
And that is all there is. There never were any m72 turrets on m62 hulls and a m72 turret on a m67 hull is a m72 anyhow. There are several "updates" for the T-62, but they are all prototypes or show vehicles.
So buy the Trumpeter kit and have fun.

Thank you guys, I want it to be fun build. I am building the early one with attention to the details and it is killing me Although a nice kit.
I read on another forum that the angle of the rear plate has been corrected.
Cheers,
Adam

I have just compared the three sprue shots and it looks like that we have a new turret again. So maybe this one will be even better.
Cheers!

I beg to differ: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/179395 (scroll down to my second post)
One of the odd ones, yes, but still possible.

Erik,
Not saying it was not possible, I am sure it was, but if anything, you have pics of a one-off or field-mod (No reason the m62 hull and m72 turret could not be mated that I know of). But I also have pics of a m62 that was modded to add a AAMG...how many others were like this....???
These variants do exist, but only in tiny numbers. Not representative anyhow....
