I've just ordered Perfect Scale leopard 1 ARV today and was wondering with the Taurus has been deployed to Afghanistan without the MEXAS armour? I plan to add the hydraulic outrigger and base plate to the hull, but need to know if I'm going to have to scratch build the add on amorour or not. Finding pictres are few and far between and what I can find show the armour in place.
Cheers
Chris

Chris,
MEXAS was mounted on the Taurus ARV in Afghanistan...from the first tour to the last. It was also mounted on the ARV in Bosnia with IFOR/SFOR and Kosovo with KFOR.
The PSM kit is excellent and it is too bad they have not modified the kit to the 2A2 version. My review of the kit with full interior is in the review section.

Jason thanks for the info, I was afraid of that. I don't really feel like scratch building the armour. I might change my plans and build as a Norwegian version instead. I've started to build a Leopard 1A5 that might look cool being towed behind it.
Oh by the way great review of the kit, I ordered the one without an interior. Looking foward to building it.
Cheers

The Bergepanzer 2A2 from PSM is in production and up for sale within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks guys for the info. The mexas armour is the only thing stopping me from building a canadian version, everything else is easy to make. For somee reason canada did not take many pictures of the taurus in astan, found plently from the 80's
I know the dutch have a pretty cool one with an armored .50cal turret and strange camo. I still have time to decide since the kit has not shipped yet.
Cheers

Thanks for the pic. It looks like it dosn't have the mexas package on it, does this get removed before shipping it back home? Or is it possible that some stay on the FOB without the armor being installed just for daily use.

It was likely removed for shipping. All other images show the ARV mounting the MEXAS at the FOB.
Pick up the Tankograd book on the Canadian Leopard 2A6M CAN in Afghanistan...it has some good images of the Taurus ARV at an FOB.

Here is the BergePz.3 at the same parking lot at Kandahar AF Oct. 2011.
Only the SLAT was removed and all tracks were shipped out within the following week.
The TAURUS was used within the compound so it could be it never had the MEXAS fiited.
The Leopard 2A4 standing around there went back to Germany ... that what the troops and the KMW technician told me.

Here is another question, when did canada receive the taurus? I know they got leopard 1a2 loaners from germany in the late 70's, did they also receive arv's to go along with th new tanks?

When the Rent-a-Tanks were in service in Germany both 'A' and 'B' Squadron of the RCD had an ARV...they were the basic ARV and not the 2A2 version. All the tanks, the two ARVs, and an AVLB were returned to the German Army.
When the Leopard C1s were purchased the Taurus ARVs were as well.
