I was wondering if it would be possible to take a standard T-72M kit and make it into an M-84. I realize there are conversions but I have looked everywhere with no luck what so ever. There is a hardware store that sells the old trump T-72M (I've heard the stories about this kit) and was wondering if it might make a good test subjecdt. Any help or links to actual conversions is greatly appreciated.

track down a DML/Kirin kit. You can find them on Ebay for fairly cheap.

The important part of the Kirin M-84 is the resin turret, the main difference I believe is a wind sensor, but while the turret itself isn't so bad, you probably could use a Tamiya kit with modest scratchbuilding

for M-84 I believe the front hull does not have the applique armor as molded on the Tamiya T-72, if you scratch build it you would need to start with something like SP Design T-72A front hull
I can't remember from top of my head but M-84 was made by Yugoslav from T-72 M1981/2 I think?
also on the newer M-84A there is a prominent separate oil tank(guessing) of some sort at the right rear side
this feature can be found in many later M-84 based variant such as M-95 and M-84AS
I bought a TBS model M-84 before but was lost in transit so I can't comment on it's accuracy but from their official picture it looks like this:
M-84

M-84A

Note that turret shape is also different, the M-84A has dolly armor on the turret (I think...)
