I wonder if this configuration was a one off or if other instances are known?
I'm talking about this picture found in a Russian book on the JS-2 family.

hmm nice photo, havent seen a 122s without a muzzle brake before as far as i remember, will have a look through my documentation later on tonight, which book did you get this one from?

I think it's the original JSU-122S gun with muzzle brake unthreaded, not a JSU-122 barrel.

oops meant d-25s up there, the isu-122s gun indeed, but when you look closer it look like the muzzle brake is not only unscrewed but also replaced with some kind of collar, dont know if the thread dimensions on the d-25s and the a-19s are similar and the endcap from a isu-122 would fit on the end of the isu-122s barrel.

Got my answer on ML, it was in the Russian caption of the pic. Muzzle brake was removed for a parade, so that vehicles look consistent enough.
Sounds logical.
