Hi guys,
I have a couple of questions for all the MAZ builders:
Is Voyager Trumpeter set a mojor improvment on the finished kit?
I found a set of resin wheels but very expensive (56€ / 76 USD), the wheels on the kit don't look so bad, are they accurate ?
I don't have an accute "AMarket Fever", I was just wondering if any of you MAZ builders felt the kit needed that improvement or not ..
Thanks

Hi John
As far as I remember Trumpeter whells have a sligtly wrong diameter for the early version but they are ok for the late production model. But i could remember in a wrong way.
However in my humble opinion, considering how is expensive the extra set, you can live with that minor flaw. I'd like to make some resin copies of them just because I really hate the vinyl

Hi,
I have used the PE kit and some resin wheels on my own kit. Although the PE kit is very nice, it adds not that much extra detail. Some parts were IMHO quite useless or even wrong.... When I compared the kit with the real vehicle one difference was really clear: the wheels. I bought some resin ones which had a lightly larger diameter and a more rounded shape of the threaded surface. I thought this was a huge improvement. If you yourself did not notice this difference, save yourself the money and and keep the kit wheels
cheers,
Matthijs

Hi John!
I'm working on a KZKT and did not use any type of PE or resin. I'm not fanatical about these things too(though using some models).
The kit is very good, nice and easy to assemble. I just include some details inside the cab, air lines, electrical wires and (my God) an engine, that I got from a Chinese MLRS ... A headache make this area of the engine, just behind the cabin.
In my opinion, if you do not want to be 100% correct, you can do OOB.
Cheers!
Marco

Thanks for helping out guys !
Mauro, I was considering the resin wheels but IMO , almost 60€ is a bit too much for a set of resin wheels ..
Mat, I might use the PE from the kit, sometimes those PE sets have so many small details that aren't worth the trouble ( hours working on a PE part that will be hidden by some other part..)
Mauro, my goal with the MAZ will be to serve a T-55.. it just need to look like a Maz transport truck, 95% accurate is fine with me
The wheels would be nice but with that price tag ... mhh I prefer getting a Dragon kit or 2 Hobbyboss or Trumpeter kits from my long wishlist
Again, thanks for the help !!

That's exactly what I thought. I may try to make some copies of the Trumpeter ones, just to have some resin wheels to work whit. Anyway, Marco is absolutely right. If I had to spend money to improve the model, I'd prefer to fill the engine bay... but I have an old T-34 engine made by Maquette and another one which come from an AFV club T-34....Maz engine looks quite similar, so, with some modifications I could use them for my build . Extra sets are nice, but I tend to buy them only if I don't have any alternative. Sometime they are too expensive indeed!

John..after spending several months dealing w/ the PE set I can honestly say the kit parts are fine. The large fenders ribs were difficult to complete without the fenders curling. theres just not suitable improvement for the hours of replacing parts.
I really do like the PE ramps though...
