The vehicle to the left in the picture? If so I believe its a BTR-70. I also reckon that tank is a T-72BM, not a 90. Its an interesting picture- do you know anything about it or did you just find it? Any other pictures with it?

I'd go also with a BTR-70 or BTR-80

Far background appears to be a BTR-70 at left and maybe a BTR-60 at right? Is it just me, or does its upper hull look taller than on the others?

The one behind the T-72 is more likely a BTR-80; note the open hatch door on the side that isn't present on the other two BTRs in the photo.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't exactly sure if it was a 90, hence my bracketed question mark. I came across the photo doing a little research on T90s, on an obscure Russian site I think, so maybe whoever posted the photo also thinks it's a 90.

I was pretty sure the background vehicle (left) was a BTR of some kind, and I think Zvezda kit this as a 70, but don't know the quality.

Was thinking about a dio with the scene...

The vehicle behind the tank is definitly a BTR-80. I judge this from the firing port on the right front and the horizontal exhaust muffler.

Zvevda is a re-box of the Dragon kit, AFAIK. Its good, I've built one, but it lacks fine detail and the hatch hinges are rather toy-like.

But it does end up looking like a BTR, so there is that.

Rob if I was you I'd wait for the Trumpeter offerings for the BTR-70 and 80. The Zvezda kits are okay- you can get them quite cheap- some etch and a bit of scratch detailing will make them better but they wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the new ones from Trumpeter.

T-90s were not employed during Chechen war

Interesting picture indeed, thanks for sharing

The BM also appears to have bar armour fitted. In the background (behind the BTR-80) is a BTR-70 which appears to be a wreck as it doesn't look like its got any wheels. Its a nice picture for sure.

Yes it must be a wreck. Even the engine panel is removed

And thanks Rob, you're right! At a first glance I didn' notice them. There are the extra grill armours on the tank. They must be the same seen on the T-62 exeplars...I've never seen them on a T-72
