Hello, everyone! First post here, from a guy who has just started out on my first kit.

I'm plugging away at the building itself, but am a bit leery about the painting to come. Partly because of that slight fear of being utterly terrible at it (I never was much good at the visual arts) and also because... well, I'm not sure what I'd like to do my kit up in.

I'd been hoping to find some sort of catalogue of patterns/colours used on Russian vehicles, but have thusfar not had a whole lot of luck. In particular, I was wondering if someone might know if:
a) this is even a real pattern, or if someone decided that they'd just make something up that looked cool,
b) if it is indeed not some artists dream, what it's called.

I quite like it, but I'm at a bit of a loss, here. If anyone can give me a yay or a nay, it'd be much appreciated.
Sandy

Hi Nick, welcome on board. I think you're in the right place. There lots of guys here who can help you

First of all, the pattern you've mentioned, looks like the Russian 3 tones scheme

http://dishmodels.ru/wshow.htm?p=1702

Main colors are sand, a sort of dark olive green and some black stains. That's one of the most diffused camo scheme of the Russian army nowadays

If you're looking for tips about how you can manage to replicate that scheme, you should look at Karl's job

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/187381&ord=&page=1

As you can notice, he's made a really stunning job

Regarding the camouflage catalogue, well I think there are too many schemes and too many ecceptions to write a complete one. The best thing to do, in my humble opinion, it's always looking for the original reference pics of the subjects that you want to make

PS. The 3 tones scheme has a variant. The pattern is the same but you have a light gray tone which replaces the sand color

I hope this can help you

Cheers

Ah! I hadn't expected a response so swiftly. I had thought that it might be that, and had found a couple of images for reference, though the version depicted in the game is more of a gray and white.

With that said, I quite like the variant with the gray in place of the sand. I may aim for that.

And thank you, Ian, for that nearly mind-boggling amount of content. Bookmarked for sure, and I will be browsing it frequently.

My thanks to both of you for such speedy and helpful replies! For now... back to my BTR!
