This is an actual color photograph taken during WWII.

Its an amazing photograph to start with.
Its also quite cool to see how close the OD Sherman and the T34 look so similar. Thanks for posting this Matt.

I believe it is the same as Tamiya's Olive Green acryl.

My fav photo for many reasons.
But remember that color photos get color corrected quite a bit so final color depends on the printer quite a bit. Also, I think its well know that in USSR color shades were never really standardized for such applications. Look at Makarov pistol grip or AK mag bakelite color- all orange/brown, but quite a few shades and variations. Soviet 4BO is a great opportunity to use your artistic license...

I believe that is why Frank mentioned its color as opposed to the Sherman.

@ Dmitry Kiyatkin:
I think to compare a handle grip of Makarov with official 4BO standards is like comparing apples and oranges. There was an official 4BO color. Artistic license is one thing but lets not spin the facts.
I was actually surprised to hear it from you...
Cheers!

From the videos I've seen of WWII era Russian tanks being pulled from rivers, swamps and bogs; I believe this photo is accurate.

Just a thought, the Soviets could have painted the Sherman, hence the similarity in the colour of both.

This is a possibility. However, I have watched several videos of recovered Russian tanks and they all seem to have the color in the photograph still on them.

One thing I never really bother with in modelling is to worry too much about correct colours ... I choose a colour that suits/feels right to me ... so Im no expert on this subject.
But I was always under the impression that the Russians didnīt re-paint the lend-lease vehicles???

I have seen several greens, but most noticeably on Russian uniforms it appears to be a slightly lighter shade of green than that used on US olive drab.

No loss of time (and material) in re-painting Lend-Lease tanks ! said comrade Stalin.
There's a very well known pic of a Sherman with all the shipping stencils readable under the russian slogan. Hence, no russian green above the US OD.

That clenches it for me. There is too much evidence pointing to the color seen in the photograph.

maybe they are the same color because they both traveled along the same dirty dusty trail for many kilometers and are now covered in dirt and dust, note the fuel spill on the Sherman, just a thought

I never claimed that they are the same color. The Sherman has spots that are obviously darker than the color of the T34.
