Hi everyone, I recently got ahold of the old Kirin M-84 kit, and am curious if there are any good photo-etch sets I could use on it. I know it's based on the DML T-72 hull but have not been able to find any sets, will the sets for the Tamiya kit work? I also plan to upgrade the barrel. I know I can just put the turret on the Tamiya hull but I don't want to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi Seth,
who says that there ain´t no T-72 sets available for the DML kits ?
Well here it is:
T-72M1 from Airwaves (for Dragon kits), also usable for "M" version
http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/airwaves-t72mi-detailing-aec35009-p-27662.html
And take a look here, a guy built up a T-72G/M using this etch set from Airwaves:
http://olivier.carneau.free.fr/kits/russie/T-72G/index_gb.htm
But you won´t need such a set for real, believe me. I also did a M-84 tank using the Zvezda kit with some scratchbuilding and without using any etch parts:

I am the one who built this model. To be honest it's not my best and the pictures are not good as well
The Airvawes PE was a bit stiff as it was thicker than the Eduard PE for instance. In my memory serves, the fret was minimum loaded and as I was not over confident with PE at the time I used it, I didn't use some parts like the smoke dischargers bases or the schnorkel bracket. Unfortunately I haven't stored them, I fear.

Will the Eduard set (EDU35329) be ok to use? It says its for the DML T-72B/M2 but how different are the T-72A and T-72B hulls, from the look of the Kirin M-84 it looks like it's based on the old T-72A/M. Thanks for any help.

If I remember correctly, all DML T-72 hulls were the same. Only the turrets were different from a version to another.

Just one more question, will the Trumpeter tracks work with the DML sprocket? If not I was just going to try to find the Friul T-72 tracks. Thanks.

Sorry Seth, I can't help. I guessed Trumpeter issued their tracks with new sprockets ala Friul.
The DML tracks are the links and lengths type. They are not fully accurate dimensions wise.
If you can find a Friul set, it will be a good option provided you like drilling out the ends of each link ;-)

The tracks in the Kirin set are actually Indy which kind of surprised me. I think I'll probably end up getting friuls, but first a friend is letting me borrow some Trump tracks to see if they fit the DML sprocket, hopefully they do so I can take the cheaper route.
