I think I learned a lot from this build. Not to mention the fact that those are two awesome builds

Great finish to the project T! I think you captured the original scene quite nicely.

Todd,
I've been following this thread for awhile and am really amazed at your work. Love your tips and technique sharing. Got to see the finished dio at Wings and Wheels this past weekend and it was my son and mine favorite of the show.
Your pics are great but it was all the sweeter checking it out in person. Looking fwd to seeing the second part of the duel with Rob.
Cheers!
Chris

Hi there Chris!! Rob and I had an awesome time at the show, with many friends, great models and all those venders...good times!! Thank you very much for the compliment it was most appreciated. Rob has gotten pretty far on his end of the StuG part. He has been spread a bit thin and has neglected to update the thread here on Armorama. I will shoot him an e-mail and ask him to update this. It really has been great fun building the same (sort of) tanks opposite a good friend and seeing how different they can come out, not to mention showing that it honestly does not matter weather it is an old kit or new! I am hoping to start my StuG III real soon. Once Rob get pretty much done and I finish a couple of small projects I have going on.
Thanks to you and your son again...see you around!!

Todd,
Looking fwd to the stug duel! Hopefully we'll see ya out at AMPSEast 2013. I'm motivating my son to get a model or two built for it in time, and that then motivates me to finish a build as well.

Chris,
AMPS East is a definate for me Sir!! Rob and I will have a table or two set up there for the Modelers Social Club Forum. Motivation is the key! Get them built and get them entered!! One of the best things is having a look at the judges scorecard after the show. This give you a great glimpse into what they are looking for and where a modeler can inprove on.
Promise, the StuG is coming real soon!

Yeah, AMPSEast 2011 was our first model show ever and we were hooked. This past year he got his two buddies to enter as well and they too had a blast, everyone is just so great with the youngins there.
Anyway, look fwd to seeing you and Rob and watching for the stug duel.
Cheers!

They all had a blast from what I could tell!!Really tough to tell the young ones from the old ones at a show like that...they all have the same look in there eye!!

Hi all. Sorry for not posting my part two of the duel here. Been busy doing admin stuff on my forum since the new change over.
OK for my part two I have the newer Dragon StuG III ausf F kit, and T has the older release. The model is basically built out of the box since there really isn't much that could be added, besides AM products..but you really don't need it to build a good looking model like this one.
Will start off with some wip pics and the interior.
The interior painting/weathering
And here with some bits added to the upper hull and the motor deck nearly done.
Almost done and heading for paint.
Primer and a base PG using Lifecolor set.
Decals on and ready for the fun stuff.
The fun stuff, the weathering.
A couple of close ups with a bit more pin wash, chipping and dust.
Earth effects
Just about done, need to add the tracks and then touch ups.
The model completed and starting on the base.
Sorry for not posting sooner and for not posting as many wip and painting pics, there are too many for just one post. You can see the actual duel here, with many more images and the steps in the painting.

I started back up on my Kursk Tiger painting which will share the bench with this model. I need to give T some time to catch up..lol.
Valleycon 23 was a great time. As T said, we will be at the AMPS show this Fall.

Looks amazing Rob! So what's your opinion on the AK Naval colors? They look great but did you have any issues?

LOL, yeah T I finally got it here.
The Naval colors work great. The oils are fantastic. They dry dead flat and have next to no oil that you have to leach out on card board. I can't wait to build another Panzer Gray tank just to play with these some more.

Nice one James!! Well you motivated me...shut the computer off last night and cracked the box. I managed to actually get something done for once! Of course there was little time to get things loaded up on the computer...so, things will have to wait until tonight, but I will have an update!!! LOL...Be careful what you wish for my Mom always says!!

OK, here is what I have after last night's efforts.
Here we go! Sneaking this one in amongst a few other things on the bench at the moment. This is what I have to start with...
This half of the duel I will be using the older version of the kit Rob used.
So last night I cracked the box and started to glue things together.
So far so good. Thing are flying together.
Oh it's nice to have the road wheels out of the way and I can concentrate on the rest, however, I still have the early Dragon links to put together still. I will save them for movie night!! Sit and sand sand sand..........
Well, back to the bench for a bit. If I am lucky, I will be slapping some paint around soon enough!!
Thanks for stopping by!!
EDIT: Just realized Rob has started another thread containing the second part of the duel. This will be continued here: http://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/205442&page=1

Awesome work, on them both. Todd, the facticity of your subject led your model into unique expressions of damage and weathering which a modeler might not otherwise come up with. Very fine and beautiful.
